+paulkeehn
A couple of us who fell in love with this sport have pulled our resources and put together a YouTube show called Geo Trekking. I would love to get some feedback on how we can make the show better, and more interesting. Did we do a good job to promote geocaching, and environmentally friendly outdoor activity? Is there a location that you would like to see us do a show on? Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Edited July 8, 2012 by paulkeehn Quote Link to comment

+Sol seaker
uh... just a question... Why are you choosing geocaching to "promote" when it doesn't even seem you're really into the "sport"? You've found one cache this year and only 79 since 2008. It really doesn't need promoting anyway. It's doing really well on it's own with almost two million caches worldwide and five million cachers, it really is big enough and spreading fast enough. Quote Link to comment

We did it because it was fun. The sport dosen't need us obviously, just thouht people might like it. Quote Link to comment
+Planet
I'd rather geocache in person. I don't watch blogs, videos, youtubes, etc about caching when I can go out and do it for real. I don't even think geocaching should be promoted to the general public. I think it should be word of mouth, whispered in the ears of the kind of people who will enjoy and respect it. That's just my opinion, but I've seen what happens when the general public starts hiding caches. Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
You should do a video about responsible cache ownership, and the importance of maintaining your caches as promptly as possible. B. Edited July 9, 2012 by Pup Patrol Quote Link to comment

To read between the lines, I would re-interpret that ask asking, "What's really in it for you?" Well, I'm a video producer, and videographer by trade. Mostly freelance. I do ok, but would rather be able to mix my passions for video production with being in the outdoors, hiking, talking to people, maybe learning something, and then sharing that with the rest of the world. This show was shot 3 years ago, shortly after first discovering the sport. It's only been now that life has cleared my plate so to speak for me to be able to go back and cut up that footage. In a perfect dream world, the show would pay for itself, and hopefully put out some great content that promotes a healthy activity both for the people involved, and for the environment. That's what we're passionate about. So in a long answer, that's what would ultimately be in it for me. I apologize for jumping to a conclusion. Quote Link to comment

This forum is new to me and I wasn't sure where the appropriate place for this topic was. The Geocaching Topics forum would be the appropriate spot, rather than the Off Topic (non-geocaching) forum. You can't move it yourself, but you can request that a moderator do it for you. Quote Link to comment

+Planet
Yes, you hit "report" on your post, and ask for it to be closed. But I already did that for you, because you asked, and because now you have three threads all the same. That's a no-no, posting the same thing in several places. Someone will be in shortly to fix it for you. Quote Link to comment

+Planet
I didn't learn a whole lot properly from it, and I wish you hadn't pushed micro containers so much. And you showed the tracking numbers on the TBs. Not supposed to show those. They should be hidden. People are going to see them and start logging the TBs even if they don't see them, and that is a bad thing. You gave away the cache location. I hope the owner doesn't mind that. Not good to post spoilers, there was a big brouhaha recently about that. You started bushwhacking when you were .17 mile away. I had to giggle at that. My main rule for myself is don't bushwhack too soon. So, I watched through them all, almost, like I said, I like to geocache in person, and I got distracted by the Miners Castle collapse, and had to go off looking for photos of before and after, so that's as far as I got. I learned more about the caches you did, than I could have learned about geocaching. I think you need to get some terminology down. Each stage of a multi is a stage, not another cache, for example. As long as you aren't promoting yourself, have fun, but I won't be your audience, no offense, I'm nobody's audience. Quote Link to comment

The show idea was to highlight the tourist locations one might come across during or part of geocaching. The spoilers were videoed with permission and or stipulations... in other words, if they asked us not to film the final location, we didn't. I'll fine tune that as we prep for another episode. Good call on Minors Castle. It never crossed my mind to include a "before" shot or still. As far as Kingston Plains Stump was concerned, we chose to hike it in to lower our environmental impact. +T.D.M.22
IBTL. And take everyone's advice. There was a popular cacher that had some videos showing geocaches and he ended up being banned from the website for a while. Be careful what you do and don't reveal too much about the caches/cache locations or the TB numbers. I must say it look very professional, better than I though it would be. To read between the lines, I would re-interpret that ask asking, "What's really in it for you?" There's advertisements on the video pages. The whole Youtube partner thing where they do that and the more views you get generally you get more $$$ probably not enough to make anything but it's something. Quote Link to comment

You can skip this ad in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, SKIP! Parts of the videos are kind of ad-like too. Calgon Geocaching, take me away! (Probably dating myself with old ad) Quote Link to comment

knowschad
Incidentally, I agree with those that have said that you've done a very nice job on the videos... by far the most professional that I have seen. So far, I've only watched a couple of them, but for once I can honestly say that I will most likely watch them all eventually. Kudos! Quote Link to comment

It's fine that you have ads, don't get me wrong. I've already made my fortune in Youtube Money, and kind of rubbed everyone's noses in it (that's a whole other Topic). But it's very evident that I need to go get the ads cut from my own videos, pronto. Note To Self: Set up the videos so people see the videos instead. Well that one would get no views at all. I'm gonna make a video about properly logging Trackables. What the various options are for, how to log them in a courteous way that TOs enjoy, and keep them moving in the game. Yeah, and I'll call it "TRACKABLESPOILERS"!! That'll show'em.
