luzzi-reloaded
Hallo! Didi aka luzzi1971 Quote Link to comment

germanybert
HUH? Why would they need their own category? Quote Link to comment
luzzi-reloaded
Weil Paternoster spezielle und sehenswerte Lifte sind. Because Paternoster lifts are special lifts and very interesting. Quote Link to comment
lumbricus
...I don't know if they are global or just an European thing. Maybe some others from all around the world could tell if they can be found somewhere else.... "Paternosteraufzüge sind fast ausschließlich in Kontinentaleuropa und Großbritannien verbreitet." Wikipedia Paternoster-Lifts are almost exclusively spread in continental Europe and Great Britain. Wikipedia They are located to 95% inside buildings. Quote Link to comment
BruceS
I find that they sound interesting. I don't think I have ever seen one. I think there may be a prevalence problem, I think there are only a few hundred worldwide with most being in Germany. It seems that in many places that they do exist that they either are currently or have been recently turned off or disallowed thus not much to see if they are not running. Quote Link to comment
luzzi-reloaded
Gerade das finde ich ist das interessante, wenn es nicht an jeder Ecke etwas gibt. I think it's very interesting. This Lifts are rare to find and important to capture them. Quote Link to comment
fi67
I think they are interesting. Maybe just because I have never seen one yet. I see a prevalence problem, they are not only rare, most of the existing ones are probably in old office builings and not accessible to the general public. How many of them are really waymarkable? I have no idea. If there are really enough, I would support a category. Quote Link to comment
lumbricus
I've never seen one on my life. They sound interesting, but i think there are not enough to waymark Quote Link to comment
BruceS
Here is a list of them I found online. In German but seems to translate to English well using Google translate. http://www.flemming-hamburg.de/patlist.htm Quote Link to comment
lumbricus
Good Bruce. Only a few of the listed lifts are for public access Another problem is the optic. They are all looking equal and sorry for that, grey, brown and a little boring. http://www.flemming-hamburg.de/patlist_bild.htm Edited July 6, 2012 by lumbricus Quote Link to comment
luzzi-reloaded
Here are some Ideas for Variables: Is the paternoster functionally? free accessible access time year built manufacturer Adress Quote Link to comment
luzzi-reloaded
Thanks to Tante.Hossi for the input. I'm hoping for a positive response ..... Global or not global: There are also other categories they have many entries in America and only a few otherwise (see: "Abraham Lincoln" or "Improved Order of Red Men"). Why should not there be a category that has many records in Europe? (Excuse my bad english) Quote Link to comment
PISA-caching
I like the idea in general. Maybe "Circulating Elevators" might be a better name, although "Paternoster" would also be fine for me. Some interesting information can be found at this website and also at this website (make sure to watch the video too). So, if there are new and safe versions we might find more of these in the future and not only in Europe. Quote Link to comment
silverquill
I think the main problem with these is that they are inside buildings. And, although they are interesting for their unique operation, there is very little to photograph. Can enough information be found for a particular site to write a description? These are essential elements of a waymark: pinpoint geographical coordinates, good photographic display, informative description. I think these really do not make good waymarks. Certainly these are not prevalent. I don't think that is a problem, personally. I think Waymarking.com has a role in displaying and documenting objects and sites that may be rare.
