Traveling to Spain and Croatia

Recommended Posts

I am leaving in 5 weeks to head first to Croatia, then Spain to walk the Camino de Santiago then travel in the south of Spain. I can't go without geocaching. I of course need maps and they are expensive. What can I do to get inexpensive maps for these areas for my Garmic Oregon 400t so I can geocache in Europe?

Select the countries in question and see if the detail is enough for your uses.

I know this might sound like a stupid question, but since I have never downloading maps onto my gps(it came loaded with North America maps)what do I need to do? I know you can buy maps loaded onto a memory card and use those. So I would think that means I could download these maps onto a memory card that fits into my gps, and if that is the case how do I switch to the new maps? All your help is greatly appreciated.

If you want to use the maps i pointed to, download the .img file when presented with the different download options, then connect your gps to your computer, wait for it to appear as a hard disk and put that .img file under the \Garmin folder on the gps.

Edit - Not sure if the oregons have internal memory, if they don't you have to purchase a memory card on which you create a Garmin folder and put the file in the same fashion as described above.

This is a bit difficult to explain in a forum post.

If you find one at http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ just change the name of the map to gmapsupp.img and put it on the SD card in the Garmin folder. If the Garmin folder does not exist just create it.

If you get them from http://openmtbmap.org/ there are instructions on the site.

The ones from http://openmtbmap.org/ are a bit more complicated but much more up to date and have routing and POIs.

The images from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ are not updated very often, if at all.
