How to get GPS coordinates from a location in Google Maps

Recommended Posts

hi everyone

i ll travel to austria soon. thus, i need the coordinates of the places i wana visit, coz i ll rent a car

the thing is that

i m struggling to get the coordinates of a certain location in this form (N 047° 19.184)

for example

For

Lindner Grand Hotel Beau Rivage, Interlaken

i know from google earth that it has

>>> Latitude 46.68941, Longitude 7.86503

and from these values my friend got the coordinate in this form:

(N 046° 41.364, E 07° 51.902) <<<(when adding a location to my gps ,, it has to be in this form))

i dont know how he got it?!!

what i know is that i can fill in the values for Latitude and longitude in the pink box at this website

http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html

and i end up with :

46° 41' 21.876" , 7° 51' 54.1074"

in summery, i want to know how to convert from

46° 41' 21.876" to>> 46° 41.364 /???

thanks everyone

That converting seems like a lot of work, here's what I do:

for example, go to the following page:

Lindner Grand Hotel Beau Rivage, Interlaken

Then click on the Letter A Icon on the map.

Then in the box that opens, select the more... link.

The select the send menu item.

From there you select the GPS link.

Make sure that the letter A item is selected as the Include:.

Then select the Brand of GPS.

Click the send button and you have it in the GPS displayed in whatever format your GPS is set to.

The first value is in degrees (46); minutes (41) and seconds (21.876).

There are sixty seconds in a minute so to convert seconds to minutes you take the seconds and divide them by sixty (i.e. 21.876/60 = 0.3646) which gives you an answer in decimal minutes (41.3646).

Likewise to change degrees and decimal minutes to decimal degrees —> 41.3646/60 = 0.68941 which ends up as 46.68941

Cheers
