+NYPaddleCacher Posted June 11, 2012 Share Posted June 11, 2012 I did a WWFM in Zurich on Saturday and was told by a local cacher that there was going to be a souvenir for attendees of flash mobs that day as long as it was logged within a couple of days. I just got internet access this morning in Tanzania after flying all day yesterday so I don't know if I missed the "window" or the souvenir is just a myth. Anyone? Quote Link to comment

While I don't know for sure, I know the 10 year anniversary souvenir wasn't limited to logging a few days after the fact. Sounds bogus to me. Quote Link to comment

On June 9, more than 300 WWFM events are already planned in 31 countries. Those who attend WWFM IX will walk away with great memories, a smiley, and receive a custom WWFM Souvenir on their Geocaching.com profile. The Souvenir will be awarded within 72 hours of the WWFM. I'll watch to see if I get one awarded to me. The event creator had a box that everyone could use to drop in a log sheet with our handle on it. According to a message she posted to the event page yesterday there were 487 attendees at the flash mob and she think the number may actually have reached mega status. Quote Link to comment

+GMartinTX Posted June 12, 2012 Share Posted June 12, 2012 WWFM hosts rec'd emails/updates from Podcacher, the latest being about souvenirs - "Per Groundspeak, the Souvenir must be awarded at ONE point in time. It doesn't happen immediately when you log your "attended". Instead they are waiting a few days to make sure everyone has a chance to log the event. Once the souvenir is awarded, Groundspeak won't go back and award it to anyone who is late with their logging." Quote Link to comment

How did the masses even know about this souvenir? I did not know it was to be awarded until I got there. Was it in the newsletter, or Facebook, or elsewhere? Quote Link to comment

Fortunately I was able to get Internet access on Sunday night at my hotel in Dar es Salaam (after being on a plane most of the day) and log the event. Someone at the event told me about the souvenir just prior to the event. The event organizer had read the blog and posted something on the event listing about it or I wouldn't have known about it. Internet access while traveling can be very intermittant and unreliable (especially in Africa) and I'm not going to turn on data roaming on my phone to get notifications like this. GS might consider waiting more than a couple of days for one time souvenirs for those that might be traveling. Quote Link to comment
