CacheMoney850
I live in the Florida Panhandle and some friends and I want to go camping somewhere that is near a bunch of caches, but because of work, we cant travel too far. Anybody know of a good place within a few hours of us? Maybe with some fishing too. I'd really like to find a great spot. Quote Link to comment
+Isonzo Karst
There's a lot of camping and caching available in Florida. Three areas below. You can pan and zoom around on the Geocaching.com map and find these areas for yourself. There are a lot of smaller WMAs, state forests, parks around with caches, camping and fishing. Econfina Creek WMA is fairly central in the panhandle. http://myfwc.com/viewing/recreation/wmas/cooperative/econfina-creek You have to pull a permit (free) to camp there. Lots of caches and some beautiful spring fed runs. GCZEKP Rattlesnake Pond is a cache there. Geocaching map http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx?lat=30.452&lng=-85.57262 Further east is the Osceola National Forest (near Lake City). Multiple camping areas, and lots of caches. GCRVZC Lakes of Osceola - Lilly Pads is a cache in the forest. http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx?lat=30.2727&lng=-82.44355 Many caches, with the beautiful Juniper run, but further from you, is the Ocala National forest. Multiple camping areas there, no permit required. GC241ZX Deer Hearts http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx?lat=29.21383&lng=-81.82588 Quote Link to comment
+roundnround we go
What type of camping are you looking to do? Tent or RV? Primitive or are you looking for someplace that at least has running water and bathrooms? The Econfina WMA will be all primitive with no amenities. or you can look at some of the state parks like Blackwater or Rocky Bayou in Crestview. Quote Link to comment
Keystone
I am moving this thread from the Geocaching Topics forum to the South and Southeast forum. Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
There are a TON of caches on the ranges on Eglin Air Force Base, and there are both drive-up and backcountry camp areas. (Looking at your found caches, that should be pretty much in your area.) You'll need the yearly use permit, plus there is I think a $5 camping permit. Call the Jackson Guard office for more info, (850) 882-4164. Quote Link to comment
