dolly80
Hi, This has probably already been discussed before, but I coudn't find it. What are some good ideas for putting a logbook on a flat magnet? Quote Link to comment
+Jayman11
Make sure you use waterproof paper since it is very difficult to make anything waterproof behind that and keep it flat. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
Remember that, these days, a container is required. You cannot just have a log on the back of a magnet. I have found a few with zip-lock bags on the back of the magnet. They do not lay entirely flat. And, for this case, Rite-in-the-Rain logs work better. Quote Link to comment

dolly80
I hadn't heard of rite in the rain so I checked it out. Got some locally and I am putting it up with that. Should work perfect if the videos are accurate. And the reviewer didn't seem to have a problem with the cache as it was, and I've seen two others of these. She said as long as there's a logbook it would go through. I guess it's not any different than the tiny nanos that are nothing but a itty bitty log book. Quote Link to comment

Keep in mind that Rite-in-the-Rain will not hold up if it's continuously wet. It's meant to get occasionally damp, not continually soaked. If the magnet is under an overhang, it'll probably be okay. If it's constantly exposed to rain, be prepared to be replacing the paper fairly frequently. Quote Link to comment
+Chrysalides
Keep in mind that Rite-in-the-Rain will not hold up if it's continuously wet. Some (more expensive) alternatives are DuraCopy and National Geographic Adventure Paper. NGAP is available at REI. They're synthetic and should hold up much better, if you find that RITR is not sufficient. Quote Link to comment
dolly80
Thanks, thats good to know. Its under an overhang so it should last for a little while. I walk this often so I'll be able to keep an eye on it. Quote Link to comment
+Lieblweb
I've seen a magnetic sheet (buy it at a craft store) as the log book/cache. You had to find the special tool ( waterproof silver magic marker) in order to sign the sheet. It was pretty cool...... Creative. Something different. Quote Link to comment
