+NCGliderPilot
Ok, Because I haven't every word of this forum or could have missed it, can the souvenirs be purchased to start a collection of the states and other events that you personally are awarded? Just curious. These souvenirs are beautiful. Quote Link to comment

Just curious. These souvenirs are beautiful. Uh, no, they can't be purchased. Here's an explanation of it works: http://www.geocaching.com/about/souvenirs.aspx Whoops, forgot this link: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=272 B. +GeoLobo
I have suggested in the past that GC.com make a set of trading cards from the souvenirs. The souvenir image placed on the front and the information about the souvenir on the back, including the artist, why the image was chosen, and what a geocacher has to do to earn it. AZcachemeister
You can have all of mine...$20 each. Quote Link to comment
+The A-Team
I'll sell you the full set of Canadian provincial and US state souvenirs for $20. I only have one stipulation: you must have found a cache in each of those states/provinces. Oh heck, I'll even drop the fee completely. You can have them for free, but the stipulation still stands. +CanadianRockies
If you really, really want the state/province souvenirs, you can get all of them due to a bug in the system. Just claim a find in a state/province, then immediately delete that find. The souvenir will be awarded to you and will not disappear...at least not at the current time. Quote Link to comment
+GeoLobo
I may be wrong, but I think you all missed the person's point. "can the souvenirs be purchased to start a collection of the states and other events that you personally are awarded?" The key here, is those that you are personally awarded. I believe the person wants something tangible for those awards (souvenirs) that they have. Thats why in my post above i recommended to GC.com to create trading cards. However, the person who made this post, might be wanting something else to display. Thats what i took from their question anyways. Quote Link to comment

I think the souvenir images would make really great zipper pulls or key chains. They would also make a great signature item assuming you can get permission from the artists. Quote Link to comment
+humboldt flier
I rather felt that the OP might have been curious about the items for use on a hiking pole if offered in metal. They might also have curious about the items for use on a blanket or jacket if offered in embroidered cloth format. Could be great conversation starters at rallies / M&G's Quote Link to comment
+Gustav129
I took the question as being able to purchase prints of the souvenirs... Quote Link to comment
+badger10
I took the question as being able to purchase prints of the souvenirs... I think you hit the nail on the head. I also think it would be great if you could buy a magnet/sticker of each you are awarded so you could put them on a map...Similar to what you find on a lot of RV's. I know I would buy them. Well, a trading card would def be a print of the souvenirs <smile> I don't think the souvenir trading card is a bad idea but I wonder about the logistics of distributing them and verifying that one has actually earned the souvenir (or would you allow someone to purchase a souvenir trading card even if they've never visited a location?). Given that Groundspeak has done anything with souvenirs in the past couple of years other than a couple for special events and the Leap Day souvenir I doubt that they're going to invest in souvenir trading cards. How does one actually verify someone has actually done a geocache? Log book? They change and are replaced over time. People would purchase trading cards for thos esouvenirs they have earned. its an honor system. Some people may just collect them cause they like them, the artwork, etc....with no need to say they earned them. Quote Link to comment

The Spot (GC39) still has it's original log book, but I agree that verifying that someone actually found a cache when they've logged a found it is mostly based upon trust. I can understand how some might want to collect souvenirs for the artwork, but collecting artwork as a souvenir which represents a place you have not actually visited just doesn't seem right. I know the distinction may be subtle but that's how I see it. The term "souvenir" is derived from Middle French, and loosely translates to a token of remembrance. How can one remember a place that they have never visited? Quote Link to comment
