+ayrbrain Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 My membership is due for renewal next week as that is my first year as a premium member almost up. Wondering if it is automatically renewed or do i need to do it. Many thanks Quote
+The Ninjas Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I seem to recall you revert to a standard member when it expires, you have to manually re-subscribe, unless there is an option for automatic - I can't remember seeing one. HTH Quote

+mellers Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I think I'd like to know the definitive answer to this one too. What worries me is that I make extensive use of bookmarks etc. to help me while I'm working towards all these challenges around the country. I wouldn't want to "revert" to being a standard member, then lose everything.... then have to set everything up again once I renew my membership. Does anyone know if I renew in advance of it expiring, if the renewal dates from the date the existing one expires or if I lose some days-worth in the cross-over. Quote
Pup Patrol Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) I think it depends on how you purchased the PM. The Help Center has a section dedicated to Premium Membership, and there's articles there about buying and renewing your PM: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.book&id=5 I think I'd like to know the definitive answer to this one too. What worries me is that I make extensive use of bookmarks etc. to help me while I'm working towards all these challenges around the country. I wouldn't want to "revert" to being a standard member, then lose everything.... then have to set everything up again once I renew my membership. If you revert back to basic membership, then renew your PM, your bookmarks will still be there. I know, because we were Basic Members for a few years, and when we became PM's again, all my bookmarks were still there. (And all the caches we found as Basic Members counted toward the newly created Favorite Points.) Does anyone know if I renew in advance of it expiring, if the renewal dates from the date the existing one expires or if I lose some days-worth in the cross-over. I renewed our PM a week or so in advance of it expiring. I did it with a written cheque, sent through the mail from Canada to Seattle. Once the cheque was received and cashed, the renewal date changed over to 2013. No problems. B. Edited April 26, 2012 by Pup Patrol Quote
+mellers Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Well mine was a gift from a friend, so it's almost certainly going to run out after this year. I've checked out the links you give (thanks for that!) but even though it says I can pay for prem. memb. on a recurring basis, it doesn't confirm that I won't be paying twice for the days between now (say) and the date my membership actually runs out. Anyone know how I get an answer from Groundspeak on that? Quote

Re point 1, I'm pretty sure you won't lose anything. When my membership expired and I didn't notice for a week, all the PQs & bookmarks etc disappeared, but once I paid up and became premium again everything was still there just as I'd left it. Re point 2, I think this has been discussed a few times over in the main geocaching forum, may be worth searching in there. Quote
+simplysup Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 You can check whether your account is set up to auto-renew by going to your geocaching.com profile (www.geocaching.com/my) and selecting "View your account details" from the Account Options Menu on the right-hand side. Once at the Account Details screen look for the box labelled "Your Membership", and click on the "Change" link. This will show your payment method (if one is set up), and will show whether you have a recurring payment in place. I do have a recurring payment in place, so all I see is a "Cancel Recurring Membership" button. I would hope that someone who has not yet set one up has a button that allows you to do so. Quote
+Bear and Ragged Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 If it lapses, when you renew it's all back. If you renew early, it's added on to the expiry date. Did you tick "Renew automatically"? You should get an email when your renewal is due... Note Should there was a while when reminders weren't sent out... Not sure if it was fixed. Quote

+maxkim Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 You can also buy more than one year at once. I know we did a couple of years ago when the exchange rate was well in our favour..... Quote
+ayrbrain Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 Thank you all :-) My email tells me that i could be charged up to 24hours before so looks like it is set up to be taken automatically.
