How do I get the coordinates for my Cache?

My husband and I are noobs to caching with only 13 finds under our belts, however in the future we are planning to hide our own caches. My question is, how would I go about finding the coordinates for where I place my cache?

We do not have an actual GPS unit yet, so I'm using the GPS on my cell phone (a Samsung Fascinate w/Android). Am I able to find the coordinates this way? I've been trying to figure it out, just haven't been able to.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited! :)

Ideally you should not get the coordinates for hiding a cache from a phone. It is best to have a dedicated GPS unit for this. If you must use a phone, there are a number of 'averaging' apps for android. Use one of these and let it average for 5+ minutes on different days over a week or so. This will give you the most accuracy as possible.

Edit to add:

A lot of people like the following apps for averaging.

-GPS Averaging

-AvgGPS

Thank you all for the helpful information! I just downloaded the GPS Averaging app into my cellphone. We do not plan on hiding any caches for a little while since we're having so much fun finding them right now, plus I would like to research some more and get better ideas for caches. This is all very helpful. Thanks again!

You need a GPSr, there is no other option.

Beg, borrow or steal one...you need it.
