The ability to search for "New" caches in a area

I would like to see the ability to search for "new" caches only in a specific geographic location, with out having to search each and every page. Something like 10-20-30 miles from my home/base coords. Is there something like this now ?? If so I havn't been able to find it. Some fellow cachers & myself are kinda having a unofficial "race for the FTF".

That is functionality that this site doesn't provide. It used to be provided by a third party, but that party went away. (Meanwhile, the argument that site had no value rages on...)

You can get a notification about new caches from skydivers's tool at http://www.rusticweb.com/geocaching/ncalert/ but it's not very practical for impulse shopping of an area, finding the newest caches in an area you're a about to visit, and so on.

Unless I misunderstand the question, that's a standard feature of Pocket Queries. You can set up a query to return caches that have never been found using a radius search from your zip code or any arbitrary coordinates you choose. You can also limit that radius to 10 miles if you choose. You can learn more about Pocket Queries here.

Pocket queries don't solve the problem nearly as nicely as Dan's "recent caches in city" pages did.

A) They're way too un-realtime and unreliable. The poster said he was in the FTF game and PQ's are the wrong tool for that.

:) You can't see more than 5 cities in a day - even if you could actually manage to get 5 PQ's in a day - of which I'm increasingly skeptical.

C) The choices are "have never been found", "found in the last 7 days"; if you just want a list of new caches in a city since the last time you visited it. (Think about travellers that just want to glance at a city they visit to see what's new. Or questions like the FTF request here. Or the "what's new to do in town this wekeend since my Thursday email" crowd.)

One glance at a page that was like:

http://216.239.37.104/search?q=cache:R_0WF04EGAMJ:www.insidecorner.com/geocaching/stats/cachelist.cgi%3Fcity%3DCincinnati+insidecorner+%22cachelist.cgi%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

was all it took to see how much placement activity there was in a given city.

You can also sort your GPX files by date hidden using Watcher.

Watcher will also show you caches that have not been found (ghost icon)

You can sort on pretty much anything in Watcher.

For immediate notification though, I think you are SOL unless you do the skydiver thing.

Another option is to obsessively check your state's listing. They are listed in order hidden and will have a "new" icon next to them. But you'll have to open each one to see if they are near you.

About the only way I've seen to get really close to the FTF would be to go to the advanced search and then search by state (to save you time, here's Texas' results.

Admittedly, these are caches all over Texas, which is a wide amount of territory, but if you're that keen and need to know which ones are new on a daily basis (more often than PQs), you can go here and see which ones are the newest (newest are on top of the list), and they're sorted by date.

It looks like there's only about 7-10 new caches in Texas per day, so a quick click through holding the shift key should bring them all up rather quickly. Then if the coords don't match, close down the windows.

You'll be left with a separate window for all of the recently placed caches in your area.

Manual and a little time-consuming, but I think that's the best the site can offer for now.
