Multiple "homes"

I live quite a ways from where I work and the two sets of nearby caches doesn't really overlap. It would be great if I could receive notices about new caches in both areas. I suppose I could hack it by creating an extra, dummy acount with a different home, but I don't know if the webmasters would like that.

True, but that would result in either missing a bunch or including a lot of extra ones out of the desired range.

For simplicitiy's sake, assume my work is 20 miles due south of my home. I can search a range of 10 miles from the middle, with misses everything south of work and north of home. Instead, I can search a range of 20 miles from the middle, which gives me 10 miles on each side of the end points, but also includes a lot of area to the east and west that is actually beyond the range I want to look at. In fact, the unwanted area is equal to the wanted area(a 40x10 area to the east and one to the west).

At any rate, I have since found the thread re: the new search page, and it looks like that will address my need. Here's hoping it is available soon.

The new search page is available... for charter members. And it looks like that's going to be the way of these queries.

Even so, the new query doesn't let you define a rectangle as some of us suggested (and as would fill your bill). It's still based on either a radius from a lat/lon, radius from a zip code, or a geographical area (state, country).

The added benefits of the query are the ability to pick and choose cache types (virtuals, traditionals, etc.), difficulty and terrain levels, Status (I've found, I've not found, Have Travel Bugs, Never found), and Date Placed restrictions.

The really nice thing is that it outputs the file directly to a .loc file for EasyGPS and an additional output for Palms (although I'd still like to have a RTF file).

The query is good, but it is not the end-all of our problems.

So, you'll either need to set up the second account, or search from the two locations on a periodic basis.

Multiple "watch" locations might be great. New Mexico is so big and the caches are so sparse (I think 130'ish for the fifth largest land area in the US) that being able to watch several different areas would be cool. The pocket queries have been a big help, but I'm still playing with the configuration.

I didn't realize that feature was available to charter members. It just happens I was going to send in my $30 this month anyway.

Those advanced search capabilities are a *huge* incentive to sign up, IMO. Why isn't it listed in the "Become a charter member" section? There's a lot of discussion on the boards about having a good reason to sign up, and this is the best reason yet.

The query is good no matter what. EasyGPS .loc files can be read on your computer, and I presume the PDA files can be read from the proper software on a desktop computer. Many people have been complaining about the software necessary for desktop (it freezes up, etc.). I've been trying a one man "lone voice" campaign to get them to do an RTF version of the output - so that any word processor could read it.

But I've got a query set up to give me a .loc file of the caches with bugs in them within 100 miles. I just received the first last night and it really worked well.
