What is the longest running annual geocaching event?

Oklahoma has two long running events. SpringFling started in 2002 with GC4B5B and has been repeated as GCCEF4, GCJA10, GCMQX2, GCV0CZ, GC1908BD, GC18DBQ, GC1H9X5, GC21Q7C, GC2HBQW, GC39W48 and finally in 2013 GC3WYY4. There have been various names for each of the springflings held in April/May through this years. FallFest has been running since 2004 with GCJT7Y, again under various names.

Well, it's certainly not 10+ years, but the Rock Island Getaway event (GC46GWX) in Wisconsin celebrated it's 9th year in 2013. It is the longest running member-hosted (as opposed to organization) event in Wisconsin.

I found where the Indiana Spring Picnic (currently on the list beginning in 2003) actually began in 2002 with the 'Indiana Geo-Caching Picnic' (GC5361) in early June 2002. In 2003, the event was moved to and remains in the month of May.

I notice that on the 2017 event https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6KBPQ_2017-indiana-spring-picnic it says that it is their 15th year, which would mean it started in 2003. It could be that the organizers of the 2003-2017 picnics aren't counting the 2002 event as part of their series.

I cannot believe I never saw your reply! I am so sorry. But actually *we* have been the Spring Picnic hosts since 2010. We did not find out the existence of the 2002 Picnic until after the 2017 event. So it wasn't that the original event was deliberately not recognized... we just didn't know about it! [:)] The 2018 event (GC7EYYH) has been corrected as the 17th annual Indiana Spring Picnic event... we just skipped year 16. LOL

Northern Colorado celebrated it's 12th annual Wingin' It event (GC833EY) last January.  No record there, but 12 good years of fun.

Texas Challenge happened this year, just prior to local lockdown. That's 18 years and counting. Could it be the lone survivor on that list?

OKIC Picnic and Kansas Picnic are both still alive, these are the only remaining events from 2001 in the US.

 

"Chicagoland/Chicago/GONIL" seems to have ended in 2018 or so.

 

Note: MOGA is happening this weekend, it still still be on the list.

Just realized that our January date may well save our streak.  Any events in February that might get through the 'crisis' as well?

If you know if one of these events took place or didn't this year (Chicagoland, Halloween Horror, Letchworth, NY Capital Region, Nebraskashe Kearney Picnic and NWOGEO Holiday Shindig), please let me now and I will update.

The Letchworth Fall Gathering could not be held this year due to New York State restrictions on maximum gathering size (limit of 50, well under the average attendance at this popular event).

 

The NWOGEO Holiday Shindig would need to be held someplace other than Northwest Ohio where events of up to 50 people are allowed.  Ohio's limit has been 10 people since March.  No new events have been published in Ohio since then, and events published prior to March had to be canceled.

Sadly large events can happen in South Dakota. The Governor had no problem inviting hundreds of thousands to Sturgis. I know a caching events happen with one that I know last month.

The Ottawa GAG6 event started at 6:00 p.m. April 8, 2005.  the 31st event is this October.  It was twice a year for a while but is now annual.  
Tick & Nammie started the Go & Get Em events back in 2002. They ran them until GAG 10, and past the torch to the newly formed CCC, which kicked off GAG 11

There has been a GAG event (every year, including this weekend's Gag31, with the exception of Gag28. No event in 2020 due to Covid. But lots of caches placed and found.

So that's one (or 2) events a year for 18 years. Plus another 3 events and counting.
