Please Purge Plundered caches (suggestion)

A month ago I spent some time in Utah where it seemed to have caches laying all about the valley. as I tried to locate many of these caches they were not there. Normally I just download the coordinates without reading descriptions or previous success or failures. When I checked back on Geochacing.com I found that many had been missing for several months.

I suggest that when 2 or 3 "couldn't find" post occur an email is automatically sent to the placer. If a reply is not received within 2 or 3 weeks, then the cache should be put in reserve status. Possibly even having a Geocacher who has previously found it go out to verify it's there or Clean up the remains. Of course this geocacher would get "clean up" points as well.

Does anyone else share my feelings on lost Caches?

Generally if a cache has been found to be plundered or gone missing by the cache owner, it is deactivated. While it may still show up on a map, it will show in the list at the bottom of each page as being inactive. Some caches are inactive only temporarily, some more long term, and some should be archieved, but if you are careful to read the description, most that aren't there anymore, say right at the top of the cache page that they are disabled. Also, I like to read descriptions and cache logs to get a feel for what others have experienced when searching for the cache, gives me a better idea of what I'm in for.

ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

I noticed a new feature today. There is now a new choice when you log your visit. You can identify the cache as needing to be archived. I don't know any details yet but I'd assume it would trigger a message to the administrators to step in.

I would not have had a problem with caches that were recently missing. But I downloaded the co-ord's the same day as I went out to find them. When I came back to see why I couldn't find them I found many of them had been missing between 3 to 6 months! Like this one

Spoiled Canines Rejoice by feedthedog 6 months AWOL

Lib & Edub's Faultline 8 months AWOL

Higher than "H" AWOL 6 months (this one kicked my butt with atltitude sickness and ended my caching for this vacation. This one still shows active.

The Hole on the Hill AWOL 9 months before archived. If you read back far enough the owner put a note on stating he was taking the cache out while schools in session, but never archived it.

missing 6 months when i downloaded it.

There are enough caches out there placed by beginers that only had interest in the sport for one month. They neither maintain or archive them.

That is why I proposed an automated solution to archiving dead caches.
