Firefox solution:

- Install Greasemonkey https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

- Restart your browser.

- Install this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/125949

Only works on firefox, but its google maps back on GS.

MANY MANY thanks for this.

The new maps just don't work for me, they are slower than evolution, and no arial in UK, certainly not one that loads in my lifetime anyway.

The two links work brilliantly.

When I first saw this thread I saw "work around" and thought it was going to be some high tech stuff that I would just shake my head at. So I didn't even bother to look at it. Now I did and saw what you are doing....YIPEE.. not only do I have Firefox but I have been using Greasemonkey scripts from Lil'devil for years. Seems Locus Prime is down. Darn glad Lil Devil's works. When I get home I'm going to put this one on. Thank you geo-jon. Forgot who did the script on the drop down menus. Wish GC would add those. So much easier to find things.

So when you load this work around, does it totally bypass the new maps?

What I really am wondering...

I really like the search function on the left side that we didn't have before. It also has a really great button on there for creating pocket queries that include just the caches shown on the map. Makes it really nice and easy.

So does the fix make that go away?

Grrrrr, I really wanted to make some edits on the Chrome-compatible version of the plugin, but alas it is one of those plugins where the other has compressed it down to one single really gigantic, never ending line of javascript. Tried js beautifier but not even they could decipher it, LOL.

Formated beautifully in Text Wrangler... I know your original post was a few days ago, but figure you might still be interested in messing around with the userscript.

Those features are still available using the scripts. It doesn't bypass the maps, it adds to the maps.

Nope, all the warts are still there. Only thing is the map displayed as default is a Google map. All the other maps are available for selection along with Google topo and Google sat with hybrid.

This. Is. Awesome !

Any way to get it to display Ordnance Survey maps, for those of us in U.K ? I have a separate Greasemonkey script that does that already, but onto for the small tiles on the cache - it'd be awesome if it could work with the main GC map function !!

Cheers,

Chris.

You are so friggin AWESOME!!

Thanks for putting the fun back into caching for me!

I'm pretty rural and it's nice to have satellite imagery over all to let me know where in relation to marshlands, timber cuts, not to mention being able to see dirt roads...

I got mine up a few weeks ago. At first I didn't notice the difference. Boy is it great to be able to zoom in on Satellite and still see detail instead of a blank screenshot. I love all the other options too. Thank you, your a lifesaver. Now if we can get something to fix the app maps.

help please - trying to install the workaround and i get to the page and all I get is a lot of lines of code - normally it opens an install page etc - any suggestions please?

About 1/3 of the way down the page are a series of tabs. I think you might be looking at the "Source Code" tab. Try clicking on the "About" tab. You should see the install option here. Hope this helps.

Works for me, thanks for the workaround! :D

Tried again - on my desktop it installs okay, but on my laptop, also running Firefox, when I hit the install button it still comes up with code???
