How long do I have to log my finds?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Looked through the GC rules and also through the topics of this forum, so I am sorry if this post is redundant.

I took a roadtrip last summer and did a whole bunch of virtual and earth caches. Problem is, I still have not gotten around to logging any of them. I still have all the answers to all the questions, so that all logging requirements can be met. My question is this: can I still log them?

Sure you can. I would write a short explanation on the signed logs tho. People will not see your signature on the log now probably and may question you being there. As long as you have all the requirements for the virtuals and earthcaches no problem as I can see. Rather unusual? Yes but nothing wrong with it.

Geocaching.com has no such limitation. The biggest issue you may have is archived caches that are locked to prevent logging.

Otherwise, it is between you and each of the cache owners. In a vast majority of the situations all you will need to do is to include a note in your log that says somethig like "catching up an logs from last summer's road trip".

I know of people that have over 6 months worth of regular geocaches they have to catch up on.

Sure, you can still log them, if they're not locked.

Lots of people are behind in their logging of finds/dnf's, etc.

You can log them as the appropriate date. Just use the drop-down menu to input the date you actually found them.

I'm almost 2 years behind and I know someone who is over 5 years behind.

OP is talking about Virtuals and Earthcaches. No log to sign.

One cache owner did delete a find log of mine from some "catch up" logging. Find was from May 2007, GW5, logged 4 and half years late.

I don't remember enough about the cache to try and convince him that I was there, so I let it go. Of all the late logging I've done (a fair amount in the 6 months to 2 years range) that's the only log deletion I've had.
