Trackable missing private tracking number

We've just started geocaching again and today picked up a trackable. When I tried to log it, i need the private tracking number which, apparently should be on the item (this is a photograph in a plastic bag). I don't see one anywhere on it. What should I do? I have the public number and name of the trackable, but that's it.

There should be a metal tag similar to the one pictured on this page. The number is on that tag.

 

If the tag is missing, it probably got separated from the other stuff in the bag you have. It might be in the bottom of the cache you found, or is traveling happily from cache to cache without the other stuff.
