+SmokeyBob 0 Posted February 11, 2012 I just bought this etrex 20 so I'm learning how to use it. From the main menu you select SETUP>MAP>ORIENTATION. There are two choices NORTH UP and TRACK UP. Could someone explain what these options are and how are they used. Thanks Quote Share this post Link to post

Now turn right (east) 90 degrees. If you are still holding the paper map in the same position, that's North Up. But if you rotate the paper map 90 degrees to the left (so it's still oriented correctly) that's Track Up. Quote Share this post Link to post
+SmokeyBob 0 Posted February 12, 2012 Thanks for your help. I now see what that means when your holding a paper map. I guess I'm having a hard time picturing in my mind what my GPS map is doing when I'm walking around in circles looking for something. Is their a reason why you would want to use north up or track up. Quote Share this post Link to post
+ngrrfan 0 Posted February 12, 2012 Is their a reason why you would want to use north up or track up. Some people are more comfortable, even when heading south, to have North up as their reference. I prefer Track Up, as that way I know if I have to make a right or left turn it will be displayed correctly to me. Quote Share this post Link to post

Agreed - it just feels weird to be walking along and have the marker arrow pointing at me. Quote Share this post Link to post
+Lil Devil 12 Posted February 12, 2012 To the OP, try it each way for a day and then decide which you like better. Quote Share this post Link to post
