Alastor09
Hello! I have only a very "old" phone and I just wanted to know that is there any GPS programes or geocaching stuff that I can use on my mobile? Thanks for the answer(s)! Quote Link to comment
mpilchfamily
Afraid not. The phone doesn't even have a GPS in it. Its just a regular dummy phone that doesn't have app outside of whatever the phone carrier may have had for it. So there won't be anything you can use to store cache info with. Quote Link to comment
Alastor09
And what about my friend phones? nokia 6700 or samsung gt 5600? Quote Link to comment
mpilchfamily
Have you tried a google search for the phones? If the phones are not smart phones, have no GPS and don't run iOS, Android, Windows mobile, or web OS there probably isn't a decent app base for them to have any kind of geocaching app. All i did was a good search for your phone. Found the specs for the phone which mentioned it didn't have GPS. Since it isn't a smart phone the likely hood of usable apps was next to none. So doing a couple more google searches i see the Nokia is not a smart phone and looks to have the same issue as your Sony. As for the Samsung it is a smart phone but runs on some OS Samsung developed. You may be able to find an app that you can enter the cache info into. I can't find any info on if it has a GPSr or not so likely it won't be of much use when geocaching. Quote Link to comment

Barnie's Band of Gold
Well then i'll spare some money for a better phone or GPS then. Thanks for the answers I wouldn't give up so quickly. The Nokia 6700 is a Symbian S60 version 3 OS and should be able to run SmartGPX geocaching application. For GPS, use a GPS module (often referred to as a "puck") connected via bluetooth. Should be able to find one of those pretty check in e-bay land. Quote Link to comment
Alastor09
I'll see what I can find, thanks for the info! EDIT: My friend tried to upload that SmartGPX but it's not compatible with the phone (that .SIS file).. Edited February 7, 2012 by Alastor09 Quote Link to comment
