Magellin
Anyone tried these ( http://www.goalzero.com/small-guide.html ) yet? whats the opinion? 3.5 or 7 Watt Charger with the Guide 10 Plus Battery Pack. Price looks kinda reasonable for something that should last for years and be useful during power outages. I'm interested in having a little extra juice when out and about off the grid. Any other opinions on other Solar Chargers? Quote Link to comment
+Chrysalides
A hand crank generator with a rechargeable lithium battery pack (like the Duracell Instant USB Charger with Lithium ion battery, for example) sounds like a better alternative. Use battery pack to recharge devices, until battery pack is depleted. Then fall back to hand crank to either recharge device directly, or to recharge battery pack. No experience, haven't done enough research into this. Advantage : works in the dark. Disadvantage : you need to provide the mechanical energy. Personally, unless you think you're going to be off grid for a long time, I'd just go with the battery packs. Quote Link to comment

In a weak moment I purchased one of the Kodak solar chargers, given its size and weight I could easily carry a dozen AA's, each pair giving me 2-3 days of GPS goodness. Quote Link to comment
