SCMoss
I am new to this and have a question. Which north do the caches use? Magnetic or True? Want to make sure that I have my GPS set up right... Link to comment
+EraSeek
Either one will do. Many use magnetic, I use True. It only matters if you give directions in terms of compass headings. Then you want to specify if it is give in True or Magnetic. Remember, if you use True you will have to adjust your heading with your local declination when using your compass. Some compasses are adjustable, others you just have to mentally offset your heading to match the declination. find your declination here: http://www.thecompassstore.com/decvar.html "See the wonderous works of Providence! +Byron & Anne
I always use true north. When I need to use a compass I adjust it. I do use an old fashioned orinteering compass that I've had for 20+ years. And when it gives out, I'll replace with the same type. Battries are NOT included, oh!, they're not needed. +EraSeek
I'm with you, Byron! Got one with batteries and never use it. True North cause it's True North. Link to comment
