changing your user name question

Can you change your user name but still maintain your present account and not lose all your finds? If so, what is the process?

I've been experimenting and yes you can change your username and not lose your finds. Go to your account:

Then click on the Edit link in the "Your Profile" box.

Well, that certainly explains the avatar that I've seen on a couple of different accounts recently.

When I started they had just stopped allowing name changes. Then a few years back TeamAlamo had his name changed to Alamogul just by contacting Groundspeak. And that remained until ? Without this thread I wouldn't have known now they make it easy. Of course I'm sure only if the name is not taken. I would assume they still also check to make sure it is an appropiate name.

You've been able to change your username on your own for quite some time.

Help Center:

8.14. Username Change

It doesn't say when. I changed my name in '08 and I had to go through Groundspeak to do it.

I know I forget things, but I'm sure I went through Groundspeak to change our user name. That was around the time frame you speak of.

I know you could change your username as far back as July 2010 because that is when I changed my original name from Pdj79 to Howard_Family and then in August we changed it again to Geo Minions as my daughters thought just our name was boring compared to everyone else's "cool" names. It was easy and painless so I assumed it was always the case...apparently not.

Well, I changed my name in March 2010, and I had to do it the hard way (emailing back and forth with GS). It must have changed sometime between March and July 2010.
