Travel Bug Query

Hi all,

 

New to geocaching:Purchased a travel bug and it has a code on it, a tracking code. When I enter the tracking code in and seek an activation code, it wont let me do it and keeps referring me to the geocaching site. I didnt buy it from the site. It sends me to Geocoins.I brought one before from a ebayer and I could activate it, am I going into the wrong area? Mabey I have to drop the bug first into a cache and then log the trackable code?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Nonno's.

 

The Travel Bug FAQ says that if the activation code for a travel bug you own is missing,

email contact@geocaching.com and reference your Bug's tracking number and the invoice number from the location where you purchased the Travel Bug.

The activation code is printed on the tag (paper) within the little envelope, assuming that you got it in a little glassine envelope.

It's what some throw away before looking at it! Usually just a single word, not a alphanumeric code.

Go to: http://www.geocaching.com/track/activate.aspx

 

There, put in only the tracking number then click on "Retrieve your activation code".

 

In answer to your other query... You must activate the TB before you place it into a cache. Once it's activated it will show as belonging to your account and it will be in your trackables inventory all ready to be logged as dropped off into its first cache.

P.S. When you do the activation and set up its page, as you want the TB to travel from cache to cache, you need to select the option 'Not Collectible' on the TB page.

Many Thanks. I have emailed geocoins as I still havnt had any luck. i expect as suggested i threw away the bit of paper with the code on it. Learning process!
