DIAGONAL TANGENT TRIVIA

OK, it is too much fun stumbling onto one like this! Again not scouted, but found a wide spot on US 95 south

of Needles wanting to get to Vidal Jct before dark. Fired up the laptop to see what was pinned on DeLorme

close by. Almost decided to not turn back the mile of heavy truck traffic for

EU0274 until I saw that the name and year set

of this USGS mark were both 1933.

First thing that I noticed on site was that pipe has been encased in an eight inch by eight inch concrete post which

protrudes 10 inches (no DS documentation). Then I whacked a way-point and discovered that I had achieved one

of my very long term goals: rounded to the nearest second, the N MMSS equals the W MMSS! (3811.1 & 3810.8)

Anybody else with a found that close to the diagonal line? kayakbird

I've always been fascinated by meaningless numbers. Coordinates are artificial, and invented by mankind. And I loved the Degree Confluence cache that I found in New Hampshire, and hid one in New Jersey. At N 41 W 74. With lots of zeroes! Unfortunately, I had to archive it due to being a bit out of the way, and the hide decomposed. Oh, well.

I shall have to see if I found any benchmarks that fit your question.

FS0809* NAVD 88 - 1326.37 (+/-2cm) 4351.6 (feet) VERTCON

And from the GC.com page

N 35° 12.100 W 115° 12.100 (NAD 83)

And the Actual coordinates from our GPSr

35° 12.1180' & 115° 12.1391'

Kayakbird - Does this one qualify? :D

John,

You have a winner - did you get the prize that I mailed you a week ago? And had you noticed the match prior to finding it?

Now, has anyone done the math to check for the pairs on the other diagonal? MEL

We didn't know it was a match until we checked our finds.

I will need to check with the Post Office to see if they mis-placed the package.

kayakbird,

Is that disk concave, or is the photo some type of optical illusion?

Sorry, TillaMurphs, didn't notice this last question night; but, Yes, it as been beat on a bit. Circumference should be within 0.11 +/-. HH2 IS MINUS 107.000 FT! MEL
