chamont
I am laying here in bed thinking about computers and I came up with a thought. I wonder if it is possible to build myself my own kind of GPS to use for Geocaching. Wouldn't be nothing fancy it would be basic but something worth looking into for fun. Learn how GPS works and what sort of things it takes for them to function. I would like hear about if anyone tried this before. Quote Link to comment
WrongwayUK
It's such a specialised subject I doubt many have tried. Even the likes of Apple use custom modules in their phones. I don't know of you mean the electronics of the GPS receiver itself or the logic from thceiver. For the latter you could look at an Arduino kit. I have played around with them with a GPS module as an auto pilot for a model quadcopter. Could be worth a look here http://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/127 Edited November 24, 2011 by WrongwayUK Quote Link to comment
+n0k1a
It's definitely possible, but not exactly simple. Here's someone who did just that: http://www.holmea.demon.co.uk/GPS/Main.htm That one involved building pretty much everything from scratch. Others have used prebuilt GPS modules and microcontrollers, like this one: http://www.ehobbycorner.com/pages/pro_gps_receiver.html Almost anything is possible, if one is willing to put enough effort into it!
