+AtlantaGal Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) My list is fine. I see a mistake in the list. It appears that many of Chadsclan's coins have been duplicated. I think that will change the numbers once it's fixed. So I am holding off sending in anything yet. Will send you an email on this Chuck. Edited January 21, 2012 by AtlantaGal Quote

Well if it changes any numbers I will need to resubmit to prevent mistakes. Please do let me know if this messes things up. I have specific coins on my list and a shift of even one number, especially that high up will bollox the whole thing. CF30 Quote
+mamoreb Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 My list is OK. I would suggest that the numbers of the duplicated coins are simply deleted. No numbers should be changed, but some numbers won't be in use. That way, people will just have to re-check numbers belonging to that person (did they use a deleted number?), instead of checking the entire list. Quote

While a lot of them have similar names, I don't see any exact duplicates in the list. The numbers are now set. Any changes will only add new numbers or delete existing numbers. There are still technically a few hours left in the regrouping phase, so if others decide to regroup at the last minute this may affect those Want Lists already submitted. Quote

Well that's odd, there were exact duplicates when I posted earlier, 6 coins were duplicated in fact. They look correct now. Not sure what the deal was. Maybe just some format issue with Firefox or something. I dunno. Quote

+kdv Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Working on my want list, but the more verbose explanation of the use of 'variables' would help. I don't remember exactly how it was done. Quote
+ECplus3 Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 Okay, here's Part II of the Want List tutorial... Q. What if several people have listed a coin I really want. If I include all the IDs in my want lists, is it possible to get more than one? A. Using the method I described above, yes this is a posibility. Say I have listed coinID 289 and coinID 290 up for trade. I would like to get two of the following coins for them: "11-11-11 New Jersey" (IDs 410 900) "Tranq German silver" (IDs 321 402) So I could make the following want list: 289 : 410 900 321 402 290 : 410 900 321 402 However, by doing it this way I would 'risk' receiving coin 410 for coin 289 and coin 900 for coin 290. I'd end up with two of the same "11-11-11" coins instead of getting two different coins. You can avoid this very easily by defining variables. You define a coin group to make sure you only get at most 1 coin from that group. Pick a name for your group and stick a percent sign ('%') in front of it to indicate that it is a variable. Then add a colon (':') and a space-delimited list of coin IDs. In the example above, my coin variables would look like this: %MultiNJ : 410 900 %TranqGermanySilver : 321 402 Now I simply include these names in my want list, instead of the actual coin numbers. My list would then change to look like this: 289 : %MultiNJ %TranqGermanySilver 290 : %MultiNJ %TranqGermanySilver This way, if coin 289 gets traded for one of the coins from the %NewJersey group, this will prevent coin 290 from being traded for another coin from that same group. Your variables must be defined at the top of the want list that you send to me, and every line must start with your nickname in parentheses. (E&Cplus3) %MultiNJ : 410 900 (E&Cplus3) %TranqGermanySilver : 321 402 (E&Cplus3) 289 : %MultiNJ %TranqGermanySilver (E&Cplus3) 290 : %MultiNJ %TranqGermanySilver But wait! There's more! You can nest your variables. This means that you can take a variable that you have already defined and use it within another variable. Why would you do this? Say you have a coin that you would like to trade for a 11-11-11 New Jersey coin, and only for that coin. But there are a couple of them in the list (IDs 410 900). There are some other coins that you would like trade for ANY 11-11-11 coin, including the New Jersey, and there are a LOT of them (IDs 89 102 497 657 676 865 866 948) Well, you already have the New Jersey coins defined, so now you need to create a variable for the whole group: (E&Cplus3) %MultiNJ : 410 900 (E&Cplus3) %MultiAll : %MultiNJ 89 102 497 657 676 865 866 948 (E&Cplus3) %TranqGermanySilver : 321 402 (E&Cplus3) 289 : %MultiNJ %TranqGermanySilver (E&Cplus3) 290 : %MultiNJ %TranqGermanySilver (E&Cplus3) 291 : %MultiAll (E&Cplus3) 292 : %MultiAll Notice how the second variable definition uses the variable defined earlier. In my want lists, coin 289 uses the %MultiNJ variable, and coin 291 uses the variable for all MultiEvent coins. Just a few notes about precedence: the coins listed within a variable all have equal weight! So, in the %MultiAll variable, coin 410 has the same weight as coin 948. However, when using variables in your want lists, the normal precedence rules apply (ie. %MultiNJ trumps %TranqGermanySilver). That's it! Please don't hesitate to ask for clarification if I haven't explained things well enough. Quote
+The Moop Along Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I had my wish list "finished", and I was about ready to send it. then I realized that I had misnumbered some coins, all over the place. So I have to start over tonight, and double check each one by hand. Very slow process, but at least I have all the coin descriptions still ranked. TMA Quote

+The Moop Along Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Yes, mostly quite sad. that is why I have to double check the coin list again. My first ten coins were off by huge gaps, and you can guess what 10 coins those were I had those in the 90s, and most of them are in the 3 and 4 hundreds. Oops! TMA Quote

+Six Little Spookies Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Sent mine in last night. I'm glad that cut and paste extravaganza is over! Now to wait and see what becomes of it... Did anybody else have some coins they would trade for *almost* anything? Quote
+The Moop Along Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Did anybody else have some coins they would trade for *almost* anything? I have lots of those But I get really frustrated putting 1100 coins in a want string. So I typically cut it off at 200, then whiddle it down to as close to 150 as I can get. I need an automated program to make my list, then I'd be all set TMA Quote
+geoquino Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Want list sent. However, I do not expect much since there is only one coin I want and the rest are just dreams that will not come true, I guess. Quote

+drneal Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 i think i asked last year, but i'm old and i forget! i i would trade a coin on my list for just about anything anyone wanted to offer, I assume i improve the odds of tading that coin by noting i would trade for any of say 35 coins...is there a number of coins that you would like to limit the choices too...do you simply cut and paste the number into you magic 8 ball, or does a large group of trades considered add to your work load, making it harder to work with? ILYK I went with two assumptions (understandings? interpretations? hair-brained guesses?): 1) The more coins you have in your want list for a particular coin the greater chances that it will trade. 2) It is just as easy for Chuck to copy and paste a want list entry with 500 numbers as it is 5 numbers. So, I took the time and listed every coin I would accept for every coin of mine I have for trade. It took a lot of time, but probably not as much as you would think, as I only had 4 "classes" of coins: Coins that only had a few coins I'd trade them for, Coins that had a moderate number of acceptable trades, Coins that had a ton of acceptable trades, and coins that I would accept practically anything for. So essentially I had 4 trade lists to make, and since as I went they all built upon the previous list, it wasn't too hard. The hard part was first going through the list to weed out the coins I already have/didn't want, and then setting up the variables so I didn't get more than one. Chuck will have to cut and paste my 48 coins into the program, and it shouldn't make a difference to him whether a coin is narrowly selective with 20 acceptable numbers or wide open with 700 acceptable numbers. It's still 48 cut and pastes for him. Oh yeah, plus the 103 variables. Those were a pain. But I guess we should really ask Chuck about the mechanics of entering our wishlists: Is it easier to upload small lists than large ones or is it the same regardless of list size? We shall just have to wait and see if listing a large number of acceptable trades results in more trades or not. So, if you have coins that you will take *anything* for, why not include my coins (#900 through 947) on your list of acceptable trades. For Science! Quote
