+nanbirder
I have an old Garmin eTrex Vista and it's tme for a new device. I'm looking at the new Garmin Montana. However, when I bought my Vista years ago, it came with North & South America already pre-loaded. I don't see that they offer a detailed South America CD, except on the less-than -detailed World CD. I am also going on a trip to Antarctica, S. Georgia Islands & Falkland Islands and the Garmin World CD doesn't appear to have those those places on their map. Looks like the only way to maybe get those areas is to subscribe yearly to their satelite (Birdseye?)download option.... I know there are some geocaches down there and it sure would be nice to have a map on my GPS. Does anyone know which product or company (I really like Garmin, but....) provides Antarctica maps? +Timpat
Does anyone know which product or company (I really like Garmin, but....) provides Antarctica maps? I have seen free Garmin Antartica maps but have never tried them. Look Here and scroll down about 2/3 of the way to find the mapset. I may be fairly basic although it may be better than having no mapping! Quote Link to comment
+phlatlander
You might want to try a few maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ Took me a while to figure out to use it but the results are OK and the maps are free. I have installed a modified map of Europe (Germany, Austria, Czeck Rep, Hungary) onto my Nuvi 1350 and it is likely most Garmin products will read/use a .img map file Edited November 16, 2011 by phlatlander Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
They do offer detailed maps of South America... https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=253&fKeys=FILTER_REGION_SOUTHAMERICA I'm not sure if BirdsEye imagery covers Antarctica or not, but you should check and see. You can also do custom maps with the new models, so if you can find a scanned topo, etc., you can load it to your new Garmin. Quote Link to comment
