Hi,

we remember the beginning of 2010 that a German friend told us about geocaching. He asked us to do something like this in our area cause we have some good trekking experience. But what could be the reason to run in the nature to find some boxes? It was some difficult for us to understand the sense of this game. But we were interested. We visited some players in Negombo, Aluthgama and somewhere near Ratnapura. We were surprised about the friendly welcoming of Alfonso, Ratna, Jevers Mom and Ida. And we found lot of interesting things in this boxes. Lot of stories, coins and TBs waiting for somebody to travel around the world. So why not with us? - Yes, we took some of them! And we started to be the team Eaglerocks! Eaglerock is a steep cliffwall close to our base.

We thought that some of our favourite places could double the number of caches in Sri Lanka. We had some setbacks cause of wild animals and environmental conditions like swollen waterfalls, rain and bushfire. But we found solutions for all this problems. Meanwhile we have more than 30 caches between Bambarakanda Fall (near Horton Plains) and Arugam Bay. Also we are in close contact to other players like Zakead (Pottuvil) and Jimmyblue (jungle tree).

Most of our caches are for people who like to do real wildlife trekking tours. Our caches are on mountains, in caves, forest, jungle, some buddhist temples, near lagoons and in waterfalls. Terrain difficulties are from 1-5. Some places are simple drive in for handicapped people, e.g. buddhist temples in Wellawaya, Arugam Bay, Sastraweli and Westminster Abbey. Other places are hard to climb around steep cliffwalls and mountains, wade in lagoons and swim in falls. You need some good condition and equipment to find them. Some places have such thick jungle that you need one hour hard work by bushknife for 200 m only. Some caches are hidden in line of two and three for having interesting day tours e.g. Haputale - Idalghashinna, Ohiya - Bambarakanda Fall, Sastraweli - Elephant Rock - Crocodile Rock.

We got already some visitors from Germany, French, Finland, Sweden, Czechia, UAE, UK, USA and other countries. Some of caches have been found already. Others still waiting for you. We hope we didn´t made it to difficult. :) We want you to remember all lifetime about your Sri Lankan hikes.

Please contact us anytime you need help. We can give you some good advises for terrain and safety. Also we can help you to organize your hikes. Just to be sure that you enjoy your trip. You can meet us anytime at 6°45'50.21"N, 80°58'39.68"E. Please ask for our team leader Shirodh.

Wish you good luck to find our caches,

Team Eaglerocks from Haputale.
