Porn, or other inapproriate stuff

While hunting for the Rocky Mountain Cache today, I came across a some pornography near the cache site. I assumed it was a coincidence until I found some more right undearneath the cache.

What would you do?

My first inclincation was to remove it because some kids play this game too, but then it occured to me that whoever placed it might be playing their own game. I certainly wouldn't want a non-geocacher to remove stuff that I placed!

I removed it anyway, but wanted to get some opinions in case I come across that sort of thing again. (please answer not just about porn, but about other non-child friendly stuff like beer and knives)

I've found the cache you're speaking about. While looking around we too found some porno in the area. This is a park that small children play in and I wouldn't be surprised if kids even play in the cache area.

We took the pages and threw them away on our way out. It's quite possible that this is a cruising area (gay and/or straight) at night.

I would let the cache owner know what you found and let them handle it. Maybe they will post a small note on the cache page.

It's to bad too. This is a fantastic park.

As always, the above statements are just MHO.

Remove it. Usually porn left outdoors is some young teen's stash from their parent's bottom dresser drawer. After many cache finds it seems to me that a majority of public trails out there have all sorts of *secrets* hidden about.

On a similar note, we found one "love nest" at one cache location, where a couple (Married? Probably, but not to each other) were frolicking inside a bush! They heard us walking by and after some tense minutes began walking their dishevelled selves back to their cars. We checked out the bush they were in and it actually had a mattress that they could cover with a tarp! Pretty amazing stuff.

We have a local cache that had the porn problem, and now it's come up missing. Must be a big-time party area for some locals ... although I must say the mattress idea sounds MUCH better than the big flat rocks these guys must be using!

My young son and his friend found porn too. They were running ahead to check out the cache location and found it laying out ready to be found. This obviously disturbed me (the mother). I got the creeps and almost felt like we were being watched. We left for home and came back another day to finish the cache. I never said anything - do you think I should have sent the cache owner an email? Maybe if he hears from a couple of geocachers about this problem he'd move it. Its a popular park, particularly dog walkers. icon_mad.gif

Yes. The cache owner can't fix the problem if he doesn't know there is a problem. Any responsible cache owner would want to know about this and would take the necessary actions to prevent it from happening again.

I'd rather not have it there. If I want to visit a user's web site, I'd rather it be a cache related page or a personal page, not controversial and/or buisness related. Then if they wanted to have a link from that page to other pages then fine. I don't know as I'd want it to be a rule though, it's just a tacky thing to do in my mind.

A few fine lookin' girls there though icon_razz.gif

OK all, what is deemed "Inappropriate" from your perspectives?

Pocket knives?

Religious Panphlets?

How about a DVD of an R rated movie, not a Porn flick but one that I wouldn't show my 12 year old.

Nothing provocotive on the cover or anything, ya gotta get it into the DVD player and play it to be offended, assuming that you would be offended by a movie rated R.

OK, my line is...If it's not immediately offensive, like pornographic magazines, Religious Cult icon_eek.gif "Watchtower" type of propoganda or if it can't be bought by a teen in the area at the local Walmart, then that's over the line.

If a teen can go into Wally's World and buy it, then it's ok by me. What do you all think?? :D

And just why can't I do the Black Eye here anyway??? It's my Pirate Eye Patch Symbol...I NEED IT!!! icon_frown.gif

Actually, as far as I'm concerned...if there were a way to "Rate" Caches, I'd be fine with whatever (legal) stuff people wanted to populate their caches with.

The wench went to a cache with a condom in it, with the kids, opportunity to discuss with the kids. Not imminently offensive, purchasable by a teen at Wally's World.

The problems that would be associated with "Rated" Caches right now would probably outstrip the resources , with less benefit than other potential improvements though, so for now...
