+shorbird
A few weeks ago, one of our users mentioned writing a benchmarking app for Android cellphones. Has anyone tried it, and how has it been working? Are there any restrictions on which phones it can be used on? I have heard that one carrier is blocking all third-party apps on the Samsung Captivate. Any comments appreciated! Quote Link to comment
+EdrickV
The thread for it is here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=275377 Quote Link to comment
mloser
I played with it in pre-release for a bit while on a summer vacation and liked it. He has made quite a few changes since then but I haven't had a chance to get out hunting with the app. All the changes look terrific though! Quote Link to comment
+GrizzFlyer
I've been using it, and it is a great app. Nice for benchmarking "on the fly", used it this weekend at Cumberland Gap NP to check for nearby benchmarks while on top of the Pinnacle Lookout. Yep, there's one there. Have a Samsung Fascinate here. Quote Link to comment
+Holtie22
After reading this article in American Surveyor, I checked out the website mentioned and found this page. I tried it in Google Earth and it works great. Have not yet tried it in the Android Quote Link to comment

Have not yet tried it in the Android Yeah, I saw that when I had started working on my app. That works fin, it uses the "My Maps" feature, which allows you to upload KML/KMZ of a file to Google Maps, and then access it on.. well, anything that can read 'My Maps'. (Like the Droid Maps app.) The downside to this is (and one I wanted to avoid in my app), if you go to an area you didn't plan for, you wouldn't see any marks.. Quote Link to comment

AZcachemeister
See also http://www.critigen.com/mobile/findacontrol/ WOW! This is great! Except that it refuses to show me any information about scaled marks. It does show they're there, so I would know to load another app to get the details (assuming I had something available for the area). Quote Link to comment
foxtrot_xray
I use their Find-a-control every so often. Issue is, you have to physically search for your location before loading the marks. And no marker showing where YOU are in relation, and no logging/photographing (not really needed for professionals..) But, it's a nice little refined app. Quote Link to comment
