+EAGLESCOUTING Posted October 8, 2011 Share Posted October 8, 2011 Does anyone have a droid or an iPhone from Verizon that they are able to use the geocaching apps on? I'm looking into getting a smartphone and those are my two choices. BUT i've heard that for some reason the GPS and stuff doesn't work on verizon phones? Quote Link to comment

We have a Verizon Droid X and use the Groundspeak app and it works fine. After you calibrate the compass, it is just as accurate as a regular GPSr. We use it when we pull into rest stops as it is a quick, no fuss, no muss setup. +New Jersey TJ Posted October 8, 2011 Share Posted October 8, 2011 A number years ago, Verizon locked the GPS on some Windows Mobile phones, so what you heard was technically accurate a LONG time ago. You won't have those issues today with Verizon's Androids or iPhone. The GPSs work just fine with 3rd party apps. Quote Link to comment

+HuelatPackers Posted October 10, 2011 Share Posted October 10, 2011 I have a Verizon Droid X2 and use c:geo opensource(free) and Neongeo apps ($4+). Both work fine, but I like the neongeo best. (Less buggy and quick to fix) It is nice to have the phone in a pinch, but I still use my Endura Sierra with Geocaching.com PQ's and GSAK 99% of the time. Quote Link to comment
+GerIRL Posted October 11, 2011 Share Posted October 11, 2011 I did have difficulty using the GS app on my HTC Thunderbolt back in April '11 - it would only work in WiFi, would force close when using 3g or 4g data service, but since then it works fine although it is a battery hog and the screen is difficult to see in sunlight (which is a function of the phone, not the app).. +Colorado3G's Posted October 11, 2011 Share Posted October 11, 2011 I have a blackbery but I am in fact experiencing problems with Cachesense - it worked for a while...I bougth the app.....but now it won't get a satellite lock at all - won't even find them....just sits and spins.....
