wudyablo2
Hello, I'll visit Oslo next week from Wednesday, 05.10. until Saturday, 08.10.2011. Maybe someone could help me. I have two questions: 1. Which Caches are must-have in Oslo 2. I want to stay as cheap as possible. Does someone know a cheap accommodation? Thank you for your soon reply. wudyablo2 Quote Link to comment
mamoreb
Welcome to Oslo! I don't know a lot about accommodation here, unfortunately. There are some youth hostels in town, this one comes to my mind as pretty central, but I have no idea about how the prices and standards compare to other places. Must-have caches... Well, what are your plans for transportation? Do you want only caches within walking distance from the center of Oslo, are you willing to use public transportation, or even rent a car? Do you plan to do city caches only, or would you also go for a hike (several areas are accessible by public transportation)? In the center of Oslo: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=9cb77246-89f1-4d89-861c-85838214a83f http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=506a2b7f-381b-4090-b5f1-3a3ca4fe21ec http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=e8ea99d7-5c91-411c-8b1f-45b3c78cf43a http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=30b4983d-d0ef-4c8d-b949-b0d57cd404c3 Got chirp or a math brain? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=3dbb3d1c-521c-485b-8cd8-f6add75d7c52 Wherigo: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=386df186-b782-4252-b1f1-7d911d35ae99 If you like looking at old, expensive houses, try this series (English history lesson included): http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC2XG9Y I recommend taking the subway to the Holmenkollen ski jump area. Excellent sightseeing, and many nice (and large!) caches. I like these a lot, but there are many more: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=61653a26-df2c-4d37-b1ee-bcf43d60790a http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=88b1f7e7-54e0-49ac-bcc7-a6f78f64f83a 15 minutes outside Oslo by car, might be able to reach it with public transport, DEFINITELY worth a visit! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a8a38082-d6cb-495a-b82e-94fe958d53bb http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=cd87b1ef-b8d8-4cc2-8d15-5fa97fad3a9d Hiking caches: If the weather is nice, I'm thinking that one day in the woods would be nice. The area around Sognsvann is very popular and has many caches. Barely called hiking, unless you leave the main path around the lake, you could get off the subway here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=b33fa71b-7ded-4f2c-b2b4-d59aeda23cc5 If you want something slightly steeper, have a look at the area around Kolsåstoppen, i.e. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCZWA8 These are some of my favourites, but there are many other areas to visit. I have yet to find more than half of the caches in the area myself. Let me know if you need more help! Quote Link to comment
wudyablo2
Thank you very much for your help. The selection of Caches were very helpful for me. I found some of them and enjoyed it! I had 2 beautiful days in Oslo and love it. Thank you again and keep on caching Melanie Quote Link to comment
bruschetta
This is very helpful! Any others to add near Oslo? Quote Link to comment
mamoreb
There are many interesting geocaches in the Oslo area. Favourite points might guide you. I can probably update my list from 4 years ago (above), but it would be easier to give you suggestions if you mention your preferences. Like, do you have access to a car, will you rely on public transportation, or do you prefer walking distance from the city centre? How much time will you have for geocaching, e.g. are you willing to spend time on traveling to the right locations or spend a half/full day on complex but spectacular multis/letterboxes? Do you prefer creative hides in the city centre or would you like to experience nature around the city? Quote Link to comment
