GEOCACHER MAGAZINE

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the heads-up!

I was wondering what happened to my subscription.

I don't suppose there's any way of getting my money back.

I have a cousin with no neck and a lazy eye - Luigi "Knee-Cap" Bracchio . . . maybe he can help.

:anibad:

You're in California, right? I have found conflicting information on his whereabouts, but California seems much more likely then Nevada. Try small claims court.

I just wanted to chime in to say thanks to everyone for the kind words and links to my magazine "FTF Geocacher." If you are a subscriber to "Geocacher Magazine" and worried about taking a risk on another magazine, I'd like to offer you a free copy of a random back issue of "FTF Geocacher." Just send an email with your name and address to freemag@ftfgeocacher.com. (Note: My pockets aren't very deep so this offer is limited to new potential subscribers only;-)

Oh send them the one with my dog Ike on the cover...it's my FAVORITE!!! Tee hee.. lol

Shameless plug

So after seeing that I assumed he came into the project with the best intentions, got in over his head, and can't figure out how to get out, and is hoping that a miracle will happen to make it all work.

That would sound alot more believable if he hadn't resurfaced in 2010, trying to scam more people out of money.

Looks like he didn't know about it until someone posted to his Facebook page that "it's been down like a week". I was kind of surprised at how quickly they put it down. I will have to send some documentation.

Down again already?

If you look at the Title bar, it actually says "Frozen."

Actually, if you over over the link, that is what the URL says.

It's not frozen here: http://geocachermagazine.webs.com/

As a competitor, I would normally stay out of Geocacher Magazine's business. It does bother me though, that you can still purchase a subscription via their website. I often get blowback on my own magazine from people who confuse the two and believe that I am the one who took their money without delivery a product. I paid $18 to Geocacher Magazine myself over a year ago and have yet to receive a copy. The fact that Geocacher Magazine continues to take money from subscribers not only rubs me the wrong way, it also hurts my business. Whatever the problems the publisher may be facing, professional or private, he needs to stop taking subscriptions until he can guarantee delivery of a product. - ckpetrus (FTF Geocacher Magazine)

Well, I got the geocacher magazine website taken down for a couple weeks, but it was apparently just a coincedence, and had nothing to do with the fact that the magazine doesn't actually exist or anything. After it was put back up, I got this reply from his web hosting company:

The site was initially frozen not for content violations but for inactivity. We need specific explanations why, based solely on the content of the site, it should be suspended. Please reply.

And then, when I didn't reply within 24 FRIGGIN' HOURS they closed the case. At 3:00 PM on a Saturday afternoon, no less. Nice to see he has such a hard working web host that they have people working and closing cases on a Saturday. (I'm sure they don't, and it was an auto response, but still).

So I'm throwing in the towel here. His website can continue to advertise the Fall 2010 issue which was never published, and he can still take people's money through Pay Pal.

I know this is OT but I would like to send some good vibes out to this thread. I just ordered your ipad app and have made it through the first 3 issues. I was pleasantly surprised to see how professionally done this was and of course entertaining.

I think the best way to put this Geocacher Magazine business would be to support FTF Geocacher and at some point there will be no question as to what THE geocaching magazine is.

Keep up the good work.

I had thought FTF Geocacher had already done that. Then Mr. Jacobus reappeared out of nowhere in 2010 taking more people's money. I wonder if this is periodic, and he will reappear in 2012?

I'm surprised that Groundspeak hasn't at the very least closed his account. That alone would go some ways towards discrediting him as a geocacher.

Perhaps they have not read this thread.

Lets see if this works.

Adding some new information to the list. Seems like Mike has recruited a new "editor" to scam people out of more money.

Richard Garrick - new interm Editor

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003354890757

Interesting enough, he is "friends" with Jeremy Irish on Facebook (well, not that interesting since Jeremy has almost 5,000 "friends")

It's hard to find any info on him due to the fact he shares his name with the late Richard Garret actor/director.

He lists his residence as San Diego and is from Reykjavik, Iceland

Complaints continue to be posted on the geomag facebook page and many continue to be deleted.

Since Geocacher Magazine has been brought up again recently and continues to scam people, I figured I'd post an update.

Any information available in this post is publicly available. I've added some more details including a phone number registered to the website.

Richard Garrick lists himself as the "Managing Editor at Geocacher Magazine" https://www.facebook.com/garrick.rick

At one point for a short while he was addressing people and refunding them, but then inquiries went ignored again.

The Geocacher Magazine facebook page https://www.facebook...ocacherMagazine remains semi-active with a post made as recently as January 18th, 2013.

The website continues to solicit subscriptions for a magazine that doesn't exist.

Guess I don't get it...

This has been going (off and on) since '08 or so, still advertising and still getting money for a service not there?

I listed a few options for folks nailed by this group.

You wanna put an end to this carp and get the site outta existance, you have to make a complaint.

- Griping here doesn't stop it.

If it was me, I'd have contacted all four when my money wasn't returned within a Month.

In Missouri you can register a complaint online with the State Attorney General and be done with it in half an hour. Yes, they will contact out of state sources to get it done. Our complaint involved a business in eastern US. The matter was resolved very quickly for us. Hope other states have the same set up.

Greetings all-

Just to clear things up. GeoMag has been stalled for quite some time, since right after my hospitalization, and all subscribers who have requested refunds have received them. Several individuals claimed to have subscribed, but never did, (no monies changed hands), and those requests were obviously denied. Although the web presence is still active and we hope to go back into print at some point in the future, there is no active subscription / donation / or fund-raising effort in place. Indeed all the PayPay & Payment links have been disabled.

One recurring matter is subscribers who requested PayPal charge their cards annually, which results in a charge being automatically posted to their credit card, 12 months after their initial inquiry. Any such fees are set to automatically refund the user and per our vendor agreement with PayPal, there are NO outstanding issues ... because everyone's been refunded.

To the majority of you who have been so supportive with this effort and my medical struggles, I humbly thank you for all the emails and cards. The geocaching community is indeed, for the most part, a wonderful family and I love being a part of it and sharing it with new friends. To the few remaining voices of dissent, I hope this clears it all up for you and you can move on.

Best Regards to all-

While I don't plan to reply to every or any ongoing accusations;

1. The few complaints to "authorities" were Better Business queries (3 total) which were responded to immediately and refund documentation was provided.

2. Payments we "kept accepting" were set as automatic and were refunded immediately.

3. Please refresh your page ckpetrus - there is no active PayPal link anywhere.

So, like I said, I'm sure the static will continue, but we've done right by everyone concerned and are looking forward!

Cheers!

As of 2010 he sure made it look like they were currently printing issues, and there was some past issues also.

Founded in 2007, Geocacher Magazine was created to provide a printed publication for the lovers and players of the fastest growing high-tech sport/hobby ever!

Inspired by Boy's Life magazine, the national publication for boy scouts, ScoutMaster and first-time publisher, Michael Jacobus, launched the Premiere Issue in the spring of 2008.

After quite the learning curve from jumping into the deep-end of publishing, GeoMag is back in production with the next 3 issues sent for final editing.

Winter 2010 brings the latest issue of GeoMag!

Scheduled to go to press by mid-late October for early November mailing.

Order Back Issues!

Single copies of back issues are available as long as supply lasts.

Pricing includes postage!

WHAT BACK ISSUES ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ?????

The few remaining voices of dissent? More like near universal dissent, and 1 supporter, most likely a family member. :)

Puh-leease Michael. We know all about the Kickstarter page to send you to South Africa several years after your "illness", all while you were still taking money on the Geocacher Magazine Website. We also know about the Kickstarter page to raise funds for Geocacher Magazine itself, which you took down within a couple days when questioned about it by the Its not about the numbers blog.

This has taken 6 years. Seriously?
