+Birdman-of-liskatraz Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 When some of those evil Puzzle cache setters use some weird code to encipher the coordinates, you may just find this program to be very useful. It's opensource and free by the way, so well worth a try... CrypTool 2 Quote

Did try to translate "a visual programming control provides visualisation and workflow controls to enable intuitive manipulation and interaction of the cryptographic primitives" but even Google just shrugged its shoulders. I'll tuck it away in a corner of my hard drive for a rainy puzzle day. Cheers Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 For those people that have a smart phone the free app called GeoCache Calculator is quite good for deciphering codes and all other sorts of stuff. Quote

+MBFace Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 When you install it you can choose English as the language. As Lovejoy obviously did. I'm glad I'm not the only Luddite who thought it was all in Double Dutch . Quote
+Happy Humphrey Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 It looks very pretty, and I do have a few codes to crack. I must say though, after fifteen minutes trying I haven't actually got it to do anything at all! I can't figure out how to ask it to decipher anything. Quote
+Happy Humphrey Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I had another go and got nowhere again. Look like I'll have to decipher the puzzles the old-fashioned way. CrypTool 2 is a hard code to crack in itself - I guess you need some sort of training to stand a chance of achieving anything. But thanks for pointing it out; maybe some people will have more luck (or be less thick!). Quote

+londontavern Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 On a very wet and windy Sunday morning in the UK the post from 'KinkyD' brought back memories of two warm and sunny holidays in Ibiza. It entailed a double visit to GC3TM1N , decoded at home then when the padlocked cache was in our hand there was even more of the above to decode. Oh! yes it had been placed by a German Cacher (whom we met as he had a nearby business) and they do love their puzzles. My wife laboriously wrote down the second part of the clue. A you can imagine one miss-pelt letter would be disaster. However we failed to decode part two which was done in the same code. We had to wait until we were home and in further contact with the owner, he gave the hint that although we had decoded the second part correctly (it just looked like 'gobble-degook') it was actually now in an offset code (we were on holiday 'give us a break'). However another lovely holiday ensued and another smiley face appeared. Cheers to 'KinkyD' for bringing back the memories and from his post in showing us via Google Earth a park in the south. Quote
+londontavern Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 The link to the 'crypto tool' now appears to be broken. Quote
+MartyBartfast Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 A google for cryptool2 throws up a few hits, including this (english) one: https://www.cryptool.org/en/cryptool2-en Quote
