If I archive one of mine will we be back to 99,999?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Nope... because this morning it's already gone up to 100,102 - 99 new caches published since yesterday evening when Delta68 posted. (Maybe even more than that, if some were also archived.)

It probably passed 100,000 several hours earlier because ignored caches are excluded from the total... :rolleyes:

When I started a little over a year ago I'm sure there were 60,000 caches in the UK. By my rough calculations that is a 70% increase in 12 months!

If that is repeated this year, by September 2012 there will be roughly 170,000 caches in the UK!

When I became a Reviewer May 2006, there was only around (you might not believe this) 3,500 Active caches in the UK. :yikes: In the last 5 years I've published a tad over 40,000 :yikes: . I've published caches in every part of the UK (including NI, pre Regions being added to the UK & Ireland) the IoM, Malta and Gibraltar :laughing: the caches in those locations being in the tad over part :laughing:

Going back to 2008, I would not have believed then that the numbers being submitted each day, would require another 10 UK Reviewers, and I'd still be seeing a heavier daily workload than I was in 2008 :yikes:. The growth of Geocaching in the UK over the last 3 years alone has been astronomical :yikes: (one possible cause has been the creation of the Geocaching Smart Phone Apps)

Smart phone apps are definitely a lot to do with it. If I'm honest I doubt I would have embraced it the same way I have, if I hadn't had the iPhone app to begin with. Of course I've moved onto a GPS unit as I enjoy doing multis etc and I feel you need a gps in order to do them effectively.

Anyway, the rate of growth is unreal as you point out. It's like someone has their foot on the accelerator and can't take it off!
