Lackey Coin Years?

Does that mean that the 05 and 07 coins are rare or are there lots of them out there?

And what about the GS Volunteer coins of the same years?

I have two of the 2005 versions. I am listed as the owner of both of them. I think that the 2007 versions were all owned by Signal though. I will have to check mine out and see if it is activated.

the 2007 lackey remains the property of signal.

to tell you the truth... I do not think this can be done.... since the majority of the 05 and 07 belong to signal... the keepers of them are not allowed to sell them! how can they sell something they do not owe? Actually I do not know if we are ok even to trade them....

seeing the photo of DrNeal.... is Signal a toy that we put on a car window.... or a vitruvio Frog?? :laughing

It is so cute! so is it antique gold?

thank you for the compliment, and no, I'm not antique gold (or did you mean the coin?)

Mark are you talking about the 2011 lackeys??? So there are 2 versions of this coin???

(in case you are talking about an other coin... which one has this metal variety?)

Before I knew any better (well, just a few months ago), I purchased a 2007 Lackey coin. Found out, after the fact, that they were not supposed to be sold (in fairness to the seller, they weren't even cachers and didn't know anything about geocoins). Long story short....I emailed a question or two to the lackeys and one of them offered to let me adopt the coin, which I did! So, for whatever reason now, they do allow adoptions of the 2007 coin. Cool, too, because the adoption comes from Signal. :antenna:

Edited 'cause my grammar stinks.

I am wondering where did they find this Lackey coin..... the good thing is that they adopted it to you! In my case...(I won one and I was gifted another) I emailed them but they said no! :( so... they are not accepting all...

they probably did that in your case... because you bought the coin... without knowing....

others that have the lackeys and they are the owners... they probably visited the headquarters or they found a lackey in an event... and.... :)

Well... I do not know who the seller is in that case... but seeing the other items he/she sold.... he/she is a geocacher!

in the other case.... the sellers didn't even know anything abut geocoins and they were not cachers! so..... how did they find a coin like that, that is in the wish list of many cachers? is it from muggling? did they find it down somewhere... (droped from a cacher)...

Now... this cacher may took the ok or he/she has the ownership (even if I understood the opposite in the discription...)... I do not know!

anyway... no matter what... how you can actually sell something that you do not owe? If that is ok... then someone can go to a cache take all the coins and start selling them! not that this is not happening already..... :(

It is good to check the coins we buy from Ebay..... if they belong to someone else....

Just to clear up the confusion in this one case, the coin I purchased on ebay did not belong to anybody except Groundspeak. I checked the tracking number and it had no logs and that is the reason I contacted GS to find out the status. I do not know how the seller/non-cacher came into possession of the coin, but feel their intentions were honorable in that they were just selling it because they had no use for it.

I would assume, if the coin "belonged" to a cacher and had been stolen from a cache that the owner would have contacted me when the adoption took place.

I ALWAYS check on the source of any geocoin I purchase on ebay. In fact, I have helped facilitate the return of two coins to two different owners from whom their coins had been muggled and were up for sale. In one of those cases, the person who was selling the coin had it in her possession as a result of a divorce. She wasn't a cacher and had no idea about how geocoins worked and she immediately removed it from auction and returned it to its owner.

I would never knowingly purchase a coin that belonged to somebody. That would be so wrong. And that is the reason I did all the research on this Lackey coin both before I bid on it and after.

:) Lackeys 2007 were all activated and the owner was Signal so they will not get sold... the probably had some issues with the 05 version... who knows.... I didn't even know the game! :D

Of course you didn't do anything wrong! you didn't know and the seller didn't know... that was probably the reason Groundspeak gave you the ownership.

About the sellers... it is as I said it... they might found a coin that was droped by a cacher (I mean it fell and the cacher didn't realised... it happens!) they found it... it is quite nice... but later since they didn;t know what to do with it... they sold it! things like that happen and in much much higher value things....

My uncle has a very rare old coin (real coin) that a guy had and didn't know what it was or what its value was... so... since he didn't know what to do with it... he opened a hole and used it like a washer!!! the coin that was in good condition worth.... some hundrents of euros.... can you imagine??? huh! :( my uncle saw the coin and took him some washers for it!

It is good that you check the coins from ebay... you know... sometimes not even the sellers know that a coin belongs to someone else...

for example... I steal a coin from a cache and I sell it.... you are buying it and you do not check it... later you trade it or sell it to someone else..... if he check it... what he will say? you get in trouble and you didn't even know anything!

and to be honest.... I haven't checked all of my coins..... hmm..

I was always wondering.... the lackey or volunteer coins the belong to Groundspeak.... and they are travellers... it means that if you find one in a cache you can keep it?? no, right??? It is still a traveller!

I am asking because I have seen some that were out traveling and later were kept by a cacher.... and....

I never thought about that part about the coins that are owned by Signal/Groundspeak - if they are stolen from a cache, who's to say who they belong to? Hmmmm....maybe people that have them just don't put them out to travel.

The description on the 2007 Lackey says that anyone can keep it and I say that if it is put into a cache it probably will get stolen. Kinda like a Moun10bike coin. If you find one in a cache I suggest you keep it!

I do not believe the 2007 version will be adopted out but because of this thread I now know of two people that own one.

Since this topic opened up, I have been looking into this a little more because I am one of the few people who does, in fact, own a 2007 Lackey coin. Looking on the GS website at the list of Lackey geocoins, you will see there are a VERY small number of the 2007 coins whose owners are someone other than Signal.

I still have the email in my mailbox that I received saying that "Signal the Frog has sent you an adoption request." I received the email after having a discussion with one of the lackeys about the history of the coin I had purchased. I debated about adopting it as I thought it was kinda cool that Signal owned it, but finally decided I would.

Sure didn't realize at the time that it was even a big deal to let them be adopted out...I see now that it is.

This coin adoption took place in June, so I am wondering if that change is recent. I have to assume that the number of cachers who "own" the 2007 coin is so small simply because people don't know they can ask to adopt them? For the record, I didn't ask, but the lackey offered to let me adopt it - here is the exact text from the email:

"Hello Diane-

Thank you for contacting us. I will be happy to help you with your 2007 Lackey coin!

We are actually allowing these to be adopted to players now and I will be happy to transfer the ownership to your account.

Please let me know the tracking number of the coin you have and I will take care of the adoption on my end.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Kind regards-"

There you have it

I would no more keep a 2007 Lackey geocoin placed into a cache to travel than I would any other owned geocoin. It may be owned by Signal on the trackable page, but if the original geocacher that dropped it into a cache posted that they intended it to travel, that is the mission that gets honored by me.

Glad I had the opportunity to find and move a 2007 Lackey geocoin once, and that one of the fourteen (or so) other cachers that moved and discovered it before me did not share your opinion to stash it into their personal collection because it would probably get stolen anyway.

I'm the lucky owner of a 2005 and a 2007 Lackey coin (TBNY0T & TB1YG2Q), wich came in my ownership after I met Bryan Roth at the last GME in the Netherlands. I asked him if it would be possible to make the two coins collectible, so the would go out of my inventory. As result of this question I was offered an adoption for both off them. I've got the 2009, 2010 and 2011 also. Nice to have this series complete (well almost, I don't have a Lackey version of the 2011 ;) )

hmm.... that's good! and new too! :D Because when I asked them back in 2008 I think... or 2009... they said no!

They probably chenged it when the new coins of 2009 were out to sale (I think it was the first time they were doing this..), or when they changed the thing with collectibles.... so now by adopting it... we will not have it in our inventory showing like they will be droped in a cache.....

Where did you send the question? To Groundspeak email or to Signal's email?

I sent the question to Groundspeak email. Just for the record, I didn't ask for the adoption...I had emailed GS because it wasn't until after I purchased the coin that I realized they weren't to be sold. I was asking if there was any way to determine if the coin I purchased belonged to somebody and had been sold "illegally" on ebay. In the course of the exchange with GS, they offered to let me adopt it.

I didn't even know Signal had an email!

Nope! I'll not be swayed to do so by your pleas. You already have a Moun10bike geocoin in your collection.

(Not that it is a placement decision I will likely ever get the chance to make anyway. :( )

This article should up clear any questions on the ownership of the 2005 and 2007 coins.

The 2010 and 2011 (silver only) coins are for sale on Shop Geocaching.

thank you for clear it up Love! :D I was wondering because it looked a little unfair to keep a traveller....but again I didn't know.... of course it is almost imposible to find a lackey in a cache here... where I am...

So... I can adopt my 2 Lackeys!!! one was a special gift and I won the other in a cointest! :D

hmm... so... the 2011 silver is the notmal one and the gold is only for special reasons... right? :) A lackey to give it to you... etc...

Is this for the first time? I mean the other lackey coins had only one version right? :)

The silver can be purchased but the gold you can only receive from a Lackey as a gift. That's not to say that all of us Lackeys always have a stock of them to hand out. :) If you receive one, know that it is a special gift. This is the first time we've had two versions of the coin.
