Navi-Gatr Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I regularly use Geocheck to provide solution checking on my mystery caches. This afternoon, all of the checkers on my caches are showing 404 errors. When I try to go directly to the site (WWW.Geocheck.org), I get some Danish site! Does anyone know what's going on? thanks Quote
dfx Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Just noticed the same thing and quickly had to replace the checker with an alternative on a just published cache. I can only guess that there's either something wrong on their server/hoster, or something with the domain itself. Quote
t4e Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 must be "thyroid awareness day", cause that's what i get when going to the site Quote
Mom-n-Andy Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Looks like somebody didn't renew their domain name rights. Quote
dfx Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Looks like somebody didn't renew their domain name rights. I don't think the domain registration has a problem: Domain ID:D148758236-LROR Domain Name:GEOCHECK.ORG Created On:31-Jul-2007 15:17:28 UTC Last Updated On:04-Jul-2011 12:18:43 UTC Expiration Date:31-Jul-2013 15:17:28 UTC Sponsoring Registrar:eNom, Inc. +===sgb Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Anyone know if it will get "fixed" or do we give up and move to another checker? Quote
waterfan5 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It seems that the Geocheck site is registered by some Danish guy. So I assume the problem is with his server or configuration and should get solved. You can call him if you want to make sure. http://website.informer.com/geocheck.org Quote
Gryteklut Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It seems like you can fix this In the html code <a href="http://geocheck.org/geo_inputchkcoord.php..... you change this to <a href="http://geocheck.org/geocheck/geo_inputchkcoord.php..... Also add geocheck/ in the image source line. Quote
pikacu Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Oddmund, thanx for the solution, it works! I have just got answer from the owner: "My service provider has just moved me to a new server. Unfortunately, this generates some problems, but we are working on it." Quote
Mario McTavish Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 The fix posted above may only be temporary then. Looks like an additional folder has been added to the directory (I guess, I'm not a coder by any stretch of the imagination). So I'll apply the fix (thanks Oddmund) but keep an eye on it in case it fails again Quote
===sgb Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Adding geocheck/ fixed things a couple of hours ago. However now it appears broken again and removing the geocheck/ doesn't fix it. Help please. Quote
DadOf6Furrballs Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Working as of 4:56am MDT. Everyone can breathe now. Quote
Gryteklut Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 ...and now you must remove the two "geocheck/" again Quote
===sgb Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 ...and now you must remove the two "geocheck/" again OK, that works this time. Thanks As an aside, when you view the geochecker homepage, do you find the advert bar on the right covers over the last little bit of the main page? Most frustrating. Quote

johnvanderlip Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Mine are all back to normal now and I didn't modify anything. Looks like it's fixed. Quote
Cardinal Red Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) ALERT: THIS IS A NEARLY TWO YEAR OLD THREAD I BUMPED INTO WHILE LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER TO A NEW PROBLEM I wanted to look at results in a new Geochecker I had just added to a recent puzzle. All evidence a geochecker was ever there is gone? (edit: I have since look for the HTML code, and it is still there - but anyone wanting to activate the checker won't see anything). Looked at two of another owners puzzles. One is vanished and one now has only a weird looking non functioning link. The broken link is to a Danish site right after Groundspeak addressed a Danish language issue in the recent site update. Just a silly coincidence, right? There have been other (non related?) issues reported since this site update, and Groundspeak was DOWN last night (to address them?) Is this an actual problem, or is it only an isolated issue for me? If it is a problem, is it at only one site, or both? (Groundspeak/Geochecker) If it was widespread, I would have expected to see something new already in the forum. I don't. +cheech gang Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 geocheck.org is at the moment down for everyone, so I would say it is unrelated. check here Quote
Navi-Gatr Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 The site was working yesterday so I assume something happened overnight. Most of my mysteries rely on Geocheck.org, some of them using functionality not available on other checkers. If this is a permanent problem, I'll have to convert them to traditionals or archive them. I hope this is a minor bug that Groundspeak will address soon. Quote
The A-Team Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 ...I hope this is a minor bug that Groundspeak will address soon. Geocheck is not a Groundspeak product. There's nothing they can do about it. Quote

Most of my mysteries rely on Geocheck.org, some of them using functionality not available on other checkers.People can't solve the mystery caches without using Geocheck.org? Take a read of the Mystery Guidelines The information needed to solve this type cache must be available to the general community and the puzzle should be solvable from the information provided on the cache page. I'll have to convert them to traditionals...Cache types cannot be changed - you would need to archive. I hope this is a minor bug that Groundspeak will address soon.As previously stated, Geocheck.org is not owned/operated by Groundspeak. Heck, I've never been to that site, and probably never would visit it... Quote
Navi-Gatr Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) People can solve mysteries without Geocheck, just as they can without Geochecker, Evince and others. The checkers only allow them to verify their answers before going out in the field. The additional functionality of Geocheck can provide targeted hints progressively depending on the nature of their errors. OK so I wouldn't convert them - I'd just archive them. +Ma & Pa Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I hope it gets fixed, I would have to change the checker for 140 caches or so. Quote

Of course I have no choice because we have a cache that requires you to click on the geocheck link on the cache page to get the answer. . Quote
HEADLANDERS Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Is it not about time that Grundspeak incorporated a 'checker' of there own into the geocaching website?. Quote
MKFmly Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 There are other "geo-checkers" available, some perhaps with better stability. Quote
Kacher82 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Is it not about time that Grundspeak incorporated a 'checker' of there own into the geocaching website?. The current system works quite well. Groundspeak is already way behind in developing things that we have asked for. Quote

geodug Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Yay, geocheck somehow miraculously starting working this morning (September 24, 2013). I have no idea what happened but happy this is back up and running. Quote
Traditional Bill Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Is it not about time that Grundspeak incorporated a 'checker' of there own into the geocaching website?. This would be nice. Don't like having to rely on geocheck although Certitudes is a pretty reliable checker. Quote
