CACAHUETES
Just wondering how much data people who geocache with the aid of a smartphone's GPS system eat up geocaching per month, and for me personally who goes out once every week or so for a few hours to find some would use. Would much appreciate any replies. Thanks Quote Link to comment

I've never really noticed the hit on my data plan from geocaching on a 1GB "bucket". Quote Link to comment
+michaelnel
I think the big data consumer isn't the text-based geocache files, but instead the map tiles. If you use a decent program like NeonGeo instead of the overpriced, undercapable and buggy Groundspeak app, you can pre-cache map tiles, cutting way back on data use in the field. +CacheFreakTim
The big thing is the maps. I normally use 1.5GB/month total data usage, but I also do lots of other stuff with my phone. One way to help this is to download the caches and maps before you leave the house. Quote Link to comment
