+Max and 99
A car gps can be used for geocaching, but it is NOT recommended!! We have been using a car gps for the last few months since our trail gps unit died. You really need to get a handheld gps for geocaching. Some will use a car gps to get close to the cache location, then switch to the handheld when they get out of the vehicle. Quote Link to comment
+JoesBar
The main drawbacks to using your car GPSr are two, the battery life is shorter and is only rechargeable. So you cannot swap batteries if you are out in the field on a hike and the battery dies. Also, car GPS are not water resistant. So if you happen to be away from the car and it starts to rain, you may ruin the unit. Quote Link to comment
