+SeekerOfTheWay
How do I get rid of my archived caches so that I see the actual total of caches I own? Right now, when I click on my geocacher it totals all, including archived. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+Ambient_Skater
You can't. The archived caches are saved forever for sentimental reasons, and to preserve the stats of the cache's finders. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I recall that they were considering showing active vs. archived caches in profiles at one time, but I have no idea if it is still something on the plate but since it's been quite a few years since it was mentioned I doubt it's something on the front burner. Right now I have to display my caches and subtract the archived ones to see how many I have active. I'm sure GSAK has a way to make it easier. I'd check their website to see if they have a macro that does that. Quote Link to comment
+dorqie
I like that archived caches are displayed on profiles, but I wish they were not included in the "caches owned" count. Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, dorqie, I don't mind the archived ones showing in my list, just don't want them counted in my caches owned total. I'll keep an eye on any changes, Brian. Thanks for the tips. I don't own many so I can keep track easily right now. Quote Link to comment
+lamoracke
there are a few cachers that transfer their caches to sock puppet accounts before archiving them, but personally I find that annoying because then it does not match up with who you found it from in the page or in your statistics. Its like changing history. Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
I don't have socks. That's not a bad idea, but not worth the hassle or messing of with stats. I'm sure geocaching.com will change it someday. Quote Link to comment
+niraD
If it really bothers you that much, then I suppose you could create another account for your archived caches. However, since you can't adopt archived caches, you'll need to have the other account adopt your caches before you archive them. Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
Like I said above, it doesn't bother me enough to do that. I think it will be changed in the future. I only have 14 hides, 6 archived. So easy to keep track of right now. Quote Link to comment
+dfx
I like that archived caches are displayed on profiles, but I wish they were not included in the "caches owned" count. I guess it's just another case of mislabeling on the website. It should really say "caches hidden", or maybe "caches listed". Because you did hide (or list) the ones that were eventually archived, so they should count towards that number. Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
I hid them, but archived ones don't exist so I don't own them. There's nothing to own. I'm more interested in the number of active caches folks own. Not their total over their caching career. Edited July 26, 2011 by SeekerOfTheWay Quote Link to comment

And that's what GC counts, as it is a listing service. Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
That makes sense. Yes. Still, I'd like some separation and classification. Quote Link to comment

+Panther&Pine
I'd go for Active Hides:## and Archived Hides:##. Quote Link to comment
knowschad
That makes sense. Yes. Still, I'd like some separation and classification. I agree that it would be very nice to be able to separate them somehow. We see the results here in the forums sometimes... somebody will complain that CacherX has too many hides to maintain, but when you really look at CacherX's hides, you see that many of them are old, archived hides. I don't know how many active hides I have. I could probably get it by downloading a pocket query of my hides and filtering in GSAK, but why should it be that difficult? Quote Link to comment
+Q10
Create another account and let this account adopt your caches before archiving them. Then you can have only active caches on your main account. In your profil you can make a link to the other account, so others can see all the caches, you have created. Quote Link to comment
+Mental Ellert-ness
I'm pretty sure I have 2 active caches right now. If I take the 2 caches I own and subtract none archived, I come up with 2. But my math could be off. Quote Link to comment

LOL! Well, no actually. See, I was separating them. My total cache hides say I have 20. But I have 6 of those archived. Wait, what does that leave me? Quote Link to comment

Of course I am more proud of some than I am of others, but that's a separate issue. Yeah, I've seen the sock-puppet transfer shuffle done around here too, seems like a goofy way to resolve a non-issue, but to each his own, eh TOZ? Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
I did have one cache deleted because it was in my yard and became unsafe. Otherwise, I'm not ashamed of my past caches at all! I just like seeing active cache counts for me, and other players, and not a total that includes archived ones. Quote Link to comment
