I think I broke something this weekend

My wife+kids were away this weekend so what's a bored geocacher to do when left to his own 'devices'? GO CACHING OF COURSE!

I normally like hikes in the desert climbing peaks, etc. however a few things are keeping me from that. I've had a few health issues lately (almost done with those now) and... it's about 400 degrees in Phoenix right now. That's right - FOUR HUNDRED DEGREES (fahrenheit). :)

So, I looked for some P&Gs in Phoenix and found a stretch of rural road that was prime. Before this weekend, my daily max had been 17 finds (and that's a rare type of day for me). I woke up early yesterday to beat the heat and found 41 caches before lunch.

Ummm... wow!

Yes - I know it's just numbers and that's honestly not what I get out of this game, but it was fun nonetheless to do something I hadn't done before.

What did you all do this weekend?

Found 2 caches, one that involved a 4 mile hike and took us to an abandoned mining community from the 1800's. And I placed one in the same general area.

My week end is 7 days long. Thursday I traveled to Boston for some doctor's appointments. Those went well. I found my first "night" cache with my sister and niece, and 7 other caches by the time Saturday ended. OH yea I brought home three trackables and one path tag for my collection (first one). Yesterday I did nothing. Today I think I am going to find a cache that two of my friends clam was muggled. Though they have a bad habit of not reading previous logs and not posting DNF's. Cache was last found a month ago.

It was HOT this weekend in Pittsburgh. I had this fantasy of finishing out all of the caches in the 3 big nearby local parks. Frick, Highland, and Schenley. The better half of my team said oh no! It was deemed to be a park and grab weekend, which turned out to be pretty cool. Got a nice virtual we didn't know was near by. And the Mrs. had a point that next weekend would be a pretty intense weekend of caching since we are trying to finish out the AGT before it ends in August. We are currently at 6 of 10 counties and are going for finishing four this weekend, which means a lot of driving, hiking, and camping. Perfect!

I met a donkey in the woods. (see most recent log for details)

AHH AZ, I remember it well... run from the truck to fry's, then from fry's to the truck. Strategy to minimize time spent without a/c

I miss it there, but I do not miss being a melty Canadian.

It's too hot around here to go caching right now. Good thing there's a caching event tonight, or we might have broken a record of our own -- longest dry spell (to date, it's been 17 days, due to a field training exercise in Grafenwoehr, Germany).

Got up at 5am, met another geocacher and we went out and grabbed 6-7 caches, then went to a local geocaching event, then grabbed a bunch more caches, including 2 that were in the most dense undergrowth I've ever been in. Grabbed lunch, grabbed a few more caches on the way back home. All in all 21 finds, 2 DNFs, my first Multi, and completed my first cache series. I more than doubled my count (I'm a newbie). Had a blast.

Saturday: Raining hard all day, no caching, just went and talked to a cacher at his bike store... Like we do every weekend...

Sunday: Cloudy all day, no caching, went to the Silly Boat Regatta, had fun watching the boats race.

Today: Mix of sun and clouds, no caching, went golfing with a caching friend.

As you can see, not much caching wise has happened to me in the last few days. I envy those of you who got a chance to find some caches :anibad:.... And congrats on beating your records!:D

Dragged non-caching son out with me to be FTF on a new multi-cache published nearby. The directions from the CO were to take the FTF prize and go have lunch on them. So we walked across the street to the cafe and had a delightful lunch!

I was on my bike, starting a tour of planned 7 to 8 caches on saturday. After finding the first and exploring the location further more, I went back on my bike towards number 2.

It was a small multi with some sort of riddle at stage 2, just bevor the final. As I was standing there preparing to solve the coordinates for the final, a bunch of friends appeared on theyr bikes as well, coming from a small village nearby where they hit the beergarden to have a "cool blonde". This was a great coincidence, couse it was some kilometers away from where we all live and inbetween like nothing. So, what you want to do, being on your own and meeting some friends on a fun tour. I turned the gps off, joined them and we stopped at 2 more beergardens on our further (and not too tiring) ride, enjoied the sun and company and talked about the important (and some unimportant) things of life. I also had some beer, some bratwurst and a good bunch of laughs ...

How good can a Saturday afternoon evolve?! ;)
