+wellbeloved747 Posted July 8, 2011 Share Posted July 8, 2011 i am starting to walk 15 to 20 miles in a day to either find some caches along a route or a train but what should i have in my rucksack i have a berghaus remote 8+4 i carry a first aid kit, water, waterproof coat and trousers, spare socks. what else should i take like matches a map of the are in a waterproof case with a compass any help i also carry food Quote Link to comment

Posted July 9, 2011 Share Posted July 9, 2011 These are in my backpack for every hike: water; flashlight; tick removal tool; leather gloves; batteries; log sheets; pens/pencils; first aid kit; and pocketknife (with tweezers). Other things I may add based on type of hike (i.e. night caching, inclement weather, rough terrain, etc...): everything else already mentioned plus headlamp; camera; binoculars; bug spray; NOAA radio; and pepper spray. On hikes I also carry, but not in my backpack, a hiking pole and a multi tool (with pliers). On occasion I will also carry a firearm. Quote Link to comment
