abusing my geo cache

Recommended Posts

For some reason one of my geocaches, Ppl think it's fun to treat my cache like a soccer ball. When I go to check up on it Ill find it out in the open or stuck up a random tree. i've posted a reminder to "please rehide cache the way you found it" , but for the most part it's just being ignore.

Anyone have any tips how I may stop from happening.?

Try making it a PMO cache. That seems to solve a lot of people's problems

Not going to help, if it's the local youngsters that have found it, and are having a 'bit of fun' moving it around.

Moving it to another near by location might help solve the problem, if it's the local youngsters moving it.

I agree with this one.

I have a cache that frequently gets moved about 4 feet vertically to a spot I didn't even notice during the hide. However, local youth find it in that more 'obvious' hide spot and mess with it.

Why would you assume it's youth? That seems pretty bold of you.

See the word I bolded above in those two sentences? That makes it pretty clear that he wasn't assuming, merely speculating.

But given that it's a cache in a park, and given that it keeps getting moved around, I'd say it's a pretty good guess.

OK. It could be the local old folk doing it. These old folk, always 'up for a laugh' with us young 'uns!

How's that?

Is it the one in the popular park? Perhaps it is even a dog-park (kind of sounds that way).

Therein is the answer. Hide it all you want, but a dog's curious nose is going to find it. Why? Because a lot of them like tracking, even if they aren't bloodhounds. Upon finding it, some dogs will pick it up and carry it, many will just push it around with their nose, not many will actually chew it, unless it really smells strongly of food. Should the container have been a food container in prior life, well..... 'nuf said.

Disable it for a couple of weeks that way any local muggles, young or old, will give up on it. Notify your reviewer of your reasons for the disable to keep him in the loop.
