Translate cache listings into English

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me how I might translast cache listing into english?

From what language?

1) Post this in the forums for that country.

2) Contact the cache owner, he/she might be able to help you.

3) See if anybody has written a found-log in English. That person

might be able to help.

google does a decent job. it's not perfect, but readable.

Very often the translation does not make sense at all even if a common pair of languages is involved as source and target language.

E.g. the sentence (taken from an EC)

"Mit welcher Mächtigkeit sind in diesem Steinbruch die Gesteinsschichten der Oberkreide aufgeschlossen?"

is translated into

Which thickness in this quarry, the rock strata of the Upper Cretaceous open-minded?

I tried several times to use google to understand Hungarian cache pages at www.geocaching.hu. No chance to understand enough to be able

to find a cache there in most cases.

google translate also fails completely on my own caches.

translates your phrase above as "With which thickness are rock layers of the late Cretaceous in this quarry?"

I think if Groundspeak has a "Translator" function on the pages, it might make international caching more fun and available for everyone.

It would certanly be a GREAT addition to the page for caching in Europe!

I could swear we started a topic on, or at least voted for, this exact thing on the feedback site, but now I can't find it.

Automatic translation ? The easiest way to transform a simple cache into a first class puzzle cache !

It's better now than it was a couple years ago. When we lived in Germany, I got real good at translating German to Google English to English English. :anibad:
