EyeD10T
I have seen a bunch of different cointests held in these forums. I have really enjoyed reading through them all and I enjoy all of the different cointest ideas that people come up with. Well, lets get those creative juices flowing - tell me what you would do if you ran a cointest. Be as creative as you can be and try to come up with something that hasnt been done before. The winner of the cointest will receive a Series 2 Home is where the cache is geocoin in the plating of their choice. In addition, I will send the winner a 2nd coin that they can use to run the Cointest that they described. If there are enough entries, then there will be 2 winners in this cointest. Enter as often as you like - I will keep this cointest open for 2 weeks (Until Midnight EST on June 22nd). My family (Me, My wife, and 2 daughters) will go over all of the entries and we will pick the one that we liked the most. I will announce the winner on the 23rd. Have fun with this - I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. Link to comment
keewee
I would run a cointest asking people to tell me what they would do if they ran a cointest! Link to comment
drneal
I've had one in mind for a while now...I've just been waiting for a slow period between cointests. The cointest would be called "Get Your Geek On!" The mission, to share your geekiest moments, pictures, collections, ect., that were just plain "geeky". High school pictures, (esp. club photos like chess club, yearbook staff...cmon...you know it was geeky, to receive extra consideration,) comic book collections, dead bug collections, ect. The cointest will be coming later in the fall or early winter, when going geocaching gets to be a little harder...for now, be warned...I wll be asking for the geocoin forum to get your geek on! +GATOULIS
thank you my friend for the cointest! WOW! I have 2 ideas in my mind... but I do not know if one of them is ok... well here it is.... I have seen many cointests that were funny, to make us laugh, about funny moments etc..... well... how about the opposite? How about post about the moment we cried? Tears are cleaning the soul... tears are cleaning the mirrors of our soul.. oyr eyes! each tear is actually feelings that we have... when we are full of feelings.... some are coming out... in the form of tears! We can cry of joy, happiness, sadness, love...loss... so... how about to post about the moment we remember most... good or bad... when we cried? Maybe this cointest will also work as a confension or something.... an extra clean of our soul! that is why I do not know if it is ok.... but I believe that none will judge or make fool of anyone! We are all like a family..... and we talk to eachother as very good friends! Link to comment
GATOULIS
An other idea for cointest.... is to post about our dreams! The dreams we had as children but never came true!! what we wanted to be... what happent.... etc! What or who "cut your wings"... and the dream stayed just a dream.... Link to comment
GATOULIS
A third idea.... but I do not know if it actually has been in a cointest before... is... to post about a difficult time in our life and what we did to fight it...so it will pass for ever... anything!! this may includes mistakes in our life...! Do not forget... we are all humans.. and we learn through our mistakes! This cointest is a littke difficult too as my first idea but I beleive that by that we can all learn how to avoid such things, how to fight them.... and if the problem is still alive... we can learn from others that had the same or similar problem... Link to comment
GATOULIS
I know... I have lots of ideas.... How about a supernatural cointest??? Post about strnage things we saw, felt etc... about ghosts, things we have seen and scared us but real... not fiction! Things that we can not explain.... if someone doesn't have any... he/she can post about something he/she heard in the area he/she is living, stories about houses with ghosts... or what ever else... not only about ghosts.... edited to say.... why I have the feeling that this would had been a great cointst during halloween?? Hey... I have some stories to tell.... hehehehe Edited June 9, 2011 by GATOULIS Link to comment

Sadie'sOwner
With one of us being a professional photographer and the other being the unofficial assistant, our lives and hobbies (geocaching, SCUBA diving, etc.) are engrossed in photography. We realize that not everyone is a professional photographer or has formal training, but we always encourage people to pick up a camera and tell their story! Our idea for a cointest would be a picture cointest with the objective being to tell your story of geocaching in one photograph. Your creativity is your boundary with this. We encourage thoughtfulness, and we aren't looking for certain parameters. We leave it open, so you have the ability to express yourself. Link to comment
goosefraba1
I've always thought that a neat cointest would be one that each participant would "teach" everybody else how to do something new that is unique-ish to their region/family. This could be a game, a dish, art, et cetra. Link to comment
slowdownracer
I like a cointest where someone is looking for help in the design or wording on a geocoin. It only seems appropriate. I won a Caching Pursuit ver.1 geocoin for having the winning suggestion for a question to be put on the Caching Pursuit ver.2 geocoin. (What were the GPS satellites before NAVSTAR called? Answer - Transit) I don't think ver.2 ever got minted. I won a set of the original 12 Days of Caching geocoins with the winning suggesting for what the 12th day represented. Anybody remember "12 satellites tracking"? It was used on 3 different versions of the coin. Yes, I've been fortunate to be lucky. Link to comment
sheltiedogshowlover
I think that a reciepe exchange coin test would be awesome! Everyone posts their favorite reciepe.. and since they'd be coming from different countries there'd be a bunch of neat ones to try! Link to comment
sheltiedogshowlover
Another one I'd thought about was a Rainbow Bridge cointest... posting about that special animal that made an impact on your life. (in memory of Jessie who was the best lab 4-H dog ever!) Link to comment
sheltiedogshowlover
And yet another was the cointest that remembers someone who has passed that made an impact on your life.. (for example my grandma who lived with us died when I was 7 of lung cancer and I'd never go near a "fire stick" because of her! I think of her every time I encounter someone in my health care profession now that has smoking related illness and how she gave me the gift of never having to go through that personally with her loss....) +GATOULIS
How about make a cointest about the song that actually touched you more? I mean to make you cry? to make you feel the lyrics, made your heart stop... or beat more...? And posting a the link if possible... to hear the song and maybe the lyrics? if the song is not in English... a general translation would be great.... if there are al ot of versions of the song.... try to find the version that touched your soul!!! +dfx
I'd do a cointest asking people why they think drneal puts the "ILYK" in every post of his. Link to comment
mamoreb
OK, what can I think of... I would do a cointest to guess how many of my geocoins I can stack on top of each other! I'd try to do live video transmission. I'd stack the coins in the order that they are placed in my drawer - very systematically. (Where do you think my irregularly shaped coins are...?) The person that guesses the number of the coin that causes the pile to fall over, wins! Bonus winner = whoever guesses WHICH coin causes the pile to fall over. Link to comment
Kameharem
I would like to do a classic and have a cointest where I would post a picture of a jar filled with gumballs or M&Ms and everyone guess how many are in the jar. It's old school but I think it would be fun. Link to comment
Kameharem
Here is another idea but it may have been done; have everyone nominate someone else on the forum to win the cointest, not themselves. Have them give the reason they should win and then give both the nominee and the nominator a coin. Link to comment
enola05
I have a great game that the boys & I play called Rory's Story Cubes. Basically it is 9 dice with 54 unique pictures on them. The idea is that you roll the dice then use the pictures as prompts to help you make up a story. (There is also an app for that) For my cointest I would post a photo of a roll of the dice and ask people to come up with stories. The winner would be the best story as chosen by the boys and I eg story cubes image ETA - Trying to put photo in post, it doen't want to play Edited June 9, 2011 by enola05 Link to comment
deltahotel
If I ran a cointest, I'd probably come up with a trivia test about popular music or movies, and the person who scores the best on the test wins the coin. I'd make the questions challenging so we don't get a whole group of people tying for the highest score. if there is a tie, I'd give a few really hard bonus questions to break the tie. Link to comment
Kameharem
I was looking at my trackables and the miles traveled and thought of what I think is a good contest: The Adopted Miles Cointest. The rules would be: everyone guesses the distance a coin would travel between 10 of my past cache finds. After all of the entries have been made, I would activate a new coin, randomly select 10 caches by picking numbers and dip the coin in each cache to add up the miles travelled. the person with the guess nearest the number of miles would be sent an adoption notice and the coin would be sent to them or released to gather more miles as it found it's way to it's new owner. +Fianccetto
I like to see people's scribbles and sketches, drawings, doodles and cartoons. I'd like to see people's own drawings of something relating to geocaching or their geocaching ID (so like a sig item drawing). Nothing that has been used before, something new. Simple things - an outline of an animal, or colourful initials, sketch of a great view seen while caching, drawing of a favourite cache container, whatever. (I have to confess here, I did attempt a cointest once on different forums and it fell flat and nobody entered! So entering this cointest is probably good therapy for me!) Link to comment
Fianccetto
Mr F likes puzzles, so he'd like a cointest where there's puzzles to solve (that can be used for a cache) that you have just made up yourself (and you're not planning on using for a cache yourself, but don't mind if someone else does. It's not likely to be an original idea for a puzzle (but nice if it has a personal or quirky twist). All of the puzzle has to be on the page, no links or downloads, but extra research on the web would be allowed. This gives lots of scope for all kinds of ideas, language, code, picture, map, symbol, maths, poem, history related and all kinds of other specialisms or references I haven't thought of. Posters can choose whether to include the working out and answer in their post, or email/PM it to us. Link to comment
Fianccetto
Here's another idea, simply inspired by the coin itself. Post about what it is that means 'home' to you. Interpret in any way you like(house/feeling at home/home town/homeland etc.) one post each only. Link to comment
goosefraba1
Another Idea.... ask each participant for their favorite song. This could be compiled into a Coiner mix Not only that... but we could probably each be introduced to new music. Also, we could see if there are any common grounds. My personal favorite songs: Cry, Cry, Cry- Johnny Cash Willow Tree- G. Love and Special Sauce 3 birds- Bob Marley Narcolepsy- Third Eye Blind Hook- Blues Traveler Against the Wind- Bob Seger Could probably add hundreds of songs to this list. Link to comment
yanagi
Thanks for this nice cointest! How about asking the people for coins they own that have a special meaning to them. For example I have a "Kids and Caching Geocoin" which reminds me of the caching tours with my son or I have a "Dark Side of the Cache Geocoin" that reminds me of the 2 best concerts I've ever been. Link to comment
paganfrog
my cointest would be "pass the coin" (like pass the parcel) i would start the cointest by posting "the music has started" and wannabe cointest winners then post up "grabbed the coin" the rules are the cointest end time is predetermined but kept secret only to be known by cointest owner and eartha. when the end is up the last person to have posted they have grabbed the coin wins it. +sheltiedogshowlover
I would love to do a cointest where I have my dog that does retrieving and loves toys, balls, treats, and chewies make the choice on who wins! I'd pick a variety of things and list them in the first post.I'd have everyone guess which item she'd go pick when told to go take something (no direction, just free go play and take something) I'm guessing I could come up with 30 items so 30 people could participate. One person per item, first person to pick the item would get that item as their cointest guess. After all items were picked by someone I'd pick a night and time and put them in the middle of the ring that we train in. I'd post the link to the live feed webcam of the facility and the ring that we'd be in and the time we'd be there so everyone could watch live as she picked the winner. I'd also video record her choice and post it for those who couldn't watch the life feed. Could be fun!! Link to comment
GATOULIS
hmm.... how about posting about the funniest stories we saw and had to do with animals? I mean... something that a dog or a cat or a bird did... but not fake photos, not photos or videos that doesn't belong to the poster.... the winner can be picked random... or by voting.... none will be allowed to vite his/hers own posts! I think this will be fun! BTW... a couple of days ago.. I saw something very very funny... unfortunatelly I didn't save it in a video or something.... huh! I would had been famous in you tube! I will not say what was.... I will keep it for... later! Link to comment
ALAUNOS
If I ran a cointest it would be called pass it on. I would run a simple contest that would involve 2 geocoins one activated and one unactivated. The winner would receive the 2 coins and keep the activated one and then start their own cointest to pass the activated one on to the winner of their cointest along with an unactivated one for the winner to keep...etc etc....the original poster could limit the number of cointest that follow the original one so as it would eventually end otherwise it would go on forever. Anyway that would be my cointest. Link to comment
boiler-todd
I would like to see a cointest where people come up with a really really lame reason(s) why they need to have this geocoin. For example, I just got divorced and my exwife took half my geocoin collection. I am trying to replenish my stock. OR... I was abducted by aliens when I was out geocaching in the woods. After they were done probing me they sent me back to earth but they kept my backpack that had all my geocoins in it. I would pick the top five stories then have everyone on line vote once to get the winning story. Link to comment
Fianccetto
I would be interesting to hear about caching trips people are planning, so one idea would be for the coin to become the winner's traveller (rather in someone's collection) and people write about a caching trip where they plan to drop the coin to win it. Then anyone can follow it on its adventures once it's activated and the winner can write a little bit more once the coin is set off into the wild, about how the trip went. Linked to this could also be the description and goal the coin would have, and how they would package to coin to be sent off. (It's nice to see some different ways of showing finders what the coin's goal is). Thanks for this coin mission, it's fun reading all the different ideas on here. What a great website! I know! Quite odd, but had us in stitches. Talking of stitches, here's another idea for a coin mission. Based on the idea of being home made. Anyone wanting to join in has to make something as a gift to send to someone else, along with the 'home is where the cache is' coin, which acts as a tag to be dipped (I would activate my coin to send as the tag and send the prize to the first recipient.) We each give anther (unactivated) coin to the person along with the home made gift. So the home made gift might be anything - some cross stitch, something knitted, sewn, carved, moulded, steampunked, jewellery or key chain items or something drawn or painted. Small enough to go into a cache, and either useful, cute, beautiful, wearable or funny or any combination of these. Link to comment
keewee
Seeing a discussion happening over the coins in a photo gave me the idea that for cointest you could post a photograph of some geocoins, maybe older/rarer/unusual ones that not everyone has seen or were made using a different process, and then the cointest is people to discuss the coins - ask questions or post responses to questions to get their entries into the cointest. +Sadie'sOwner
How about a design a new coin cointest. You could take all of the submissions and post a gallery of candidates and have a set time period for voting. Voting would occur through email, so no one in the forum knows who voted for who or the standings. I think voting for yourself would be out of the question as well. Otherwise, everyone will just vote for themselves, and a winner may not be apparent. It would be really cool to have one of the mint companies on board, to actually have your coin minted. Maybe mint for free, giving you the first one. Then, they would sell off the rest to pay for the cost?! hmmm...This would definitely take some organizing and a lot of assistance! It is not to say it can't be done though. Link to comment
