GUID vs ID number in cache lookup

It's simply a unique identifier string generated (I assume) at the time the cache is posted. Unlike the waypoint name <-> id number, there's is no conversion to the GUID. It just is. icon_razz.gif

 

(GUID is generated by applying a formula using a unique computer identifer (often the ethernet identifier), the current time, a sequential index, and some other things to come up with a string that should be unique. That machine will never generate that GUID again, and no other machine will ever generate that same GUID. At least, that's the plan.)
