+KBfamily
How close to GZ does your Nuvi 500 get you? Mine only gets me to within 30 feet. Before I call Garmin, I want to know what others experience. Thanks so much for your help!!!!! Quote Link to comment
+GWRoss
My Nüvi is as accurate as any GPSr that I've had my hands on. The trick though, is to set it for off-road navigation. Otherwise, as you say, it will only get me to within about 30 feet. Quote Link to comment
+ecanderson
My Nüvi is as accurate as any GPSr that I've had my hands on. The trick though, is to set it for off-road navigation. Otherwise, as you say, it will only get me to within about 30 feet. ... or whatever number of feet it is to the nearest road, unless it is far enough that it gives up trying to put you there. I'm not sure how far off road you have to be before the 500 gives up trying to put you on the nearest one. To the OP: since the maps aren't entirely accurate, the automotive GPS manufacturers employ something called "road snap" (either by default or when you're in on-road mode) that puts you dead square on whatever road it thinks you're on - and it thinks really carefully about that . Even if the road varies from the map data by 50' or more, it tries to keep you there. That's why you need to select off-road mode while searching for a cache. It won't mess with your position.
