+d+n.s Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Going to Seattle later this week and I was wondering, do things like the APE cache and headquarters equal the PERFECT spot to drop a bug or do they become prisons do to all the traffic? I heard the ae cache got looted a while back, s it a "safe" spot for bugs? Mostly just curious. Super pumped! Quote
+sword fern Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Going to Seattle later this week and I was wondering, do things like the APE cache and headquarters equal the PERFECT spot to drop a bug or do they become prisons do to all the traffic? I heard the ae cache got looted a while back, s it a "safe" spot for bugs? Mostly just curious. Super pumped! Well, the Groundspeak headquarters is probably much safer than the ape. The HQ is very busy-they have a huge container that stores tons of travel bigs. Quote
+Sol seaker Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Groundspeak is as safe as you can get. They have a big chest that is inside their offices. It's right in front of the reception desk. The problem is that they have no control over what happens to bugs after they leave that office. People pick them up and put them into other caches. No one is in control of what happens after that. The ape cache was very exposed when I visited it. I saw in the logs that it had been moved back to it's original location, but I haven't been back to confirm that or to see where that was. I was amazed at how many travel bugs were in it for it being so exposed. If you can't bear to part with it, then don't put it out. There has been discussion about a possible bug hoarder in the northwest (WA) area. I don't know if this problem has been resolved or not. Have fun while in Seattle. Check out the "Tubular" series Quote
+d+n.s Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 If you can't bear to part with it, then don't put it out. This goes without saying. I was just worried about dropping someone else's bug into the APE cache and looking like a fool if it was a well known "bad idea" just checking mostly. About the headquarters, my question there isn't really "is it safe?" but rather, with 156 TBs currently there, do they move very often? Again, curiousity mostly. Will definitely do some tubular caches. Quote

When I was there maybe only about 15 or so trackables were actually in the cache even though lots more were listed. Quote
+Semper Questio Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I would not leave a traveler in the APE cache. If been watching it off and on for years and it has always seemed to have had a lot of bugs and coins listed with repeated reports of missing travelers. I would definitely "visit" them there though! I'd have to think about the HQ cache. There are so many in the HQ cache at any given time, a traveler could languish there for quite a while. But then again, they get so many visitors that the turnover rate may be sufficient for a surprisingly quick turnaround. In either case, as mentioned before, it's not just the cache, it's the cachers finding the travelers and you NEVER know what they are gonna do no matter where you drop your bugs. I guess the best you can do is go with your gut feeling. Good luck! Quote
+d+n.s Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 I like the idea of having the bugs visit the APE cache. I actually might have the bugs visit BOTH, but end up somewhere else. Quote
+Princess Trouble Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I live in the Seattle area, and I would highly recommend you dropping trackables off at Headquarters rather than the APE. Quote
