Who can help us with our honeymoon planning?

Dear Aussies,

 

We want go get married and then make a very long and nice honeymoon. Our wish is to go to Australia and start by camper in Sydney and roughly travel along Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin to Cairns. We have never visited Australia before.

The planning is that we will go end 2012/begin 2013, because it will be an expensive journey and we still have to save some money, but with the idea we will only marriage once, we would like to have a super great trip.

 

Of course we would like to visit the typical Australian places, like:

Ayers rock

Great Barrier reef

Kangaroo island

and the Sydney opera house

 

But furthermore we don't really have an idea what we should visit, because Australia is so big.

We already searched on the internet and bought some travel guides, but we think we can get the best information from the locals.

We still have 18 months, but we want to plan our journey properly.

 

We are a couple of 27 and 30 years old, we love to see nice nature and sometimes a little bit of adventure.

During our honeymoon we would like to relax but also get a good impression of the country.

We like to have sunny weather, and no rain (we have enough of it in the Netherlands)and about 20 - 30 degrees Celcius.

 

We are looking for people who can help us with one or more of the following items:

1) What is the best month to be in the Eastern part of Australia, in the travel journeys we read December, but a colleague told us it is better in February.

2) Can some one recommend some camping places where we can overnight with our camper?

3) We would like to meet some Australian geocachers if possible

4) As a reminder we would like also to place one cache if we find a suitable place. Which regulations do we have to follow?

5) Which places should we absolutely visit (with or without caches).

Where does one start, you are right Australia is a large place and travel times can be longer then expected. The time period you talk about is our Summer where day time temputures can range from 30-40 degrees Celcius and be very humid. As for camping places if you are planning to travel Oz there is a guide book called Camps Australia see link.

 

As for meeting other campers let us know closer to due date and an event or two can be organised as a meet and greet.

Will add more over the coming days.

 

It wouls help if let us know a ruff time period you plan to spend here.

I am not an Aussie and the only thing I know about Australia is that I would love to visit there someday. However I can give some feedback about your desire to place a vacation/honeymoon cache. That "regulation" is covered quite thoroughly in the Knowledge Books

 

Owner is responsible for visits to the physical location:

You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time – normally a few weeks – in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.

 

The territory in which a geocacher is considered able to maintain caches responsibly will vary from person to person. A geocacher who has previously logged many geocaches within a wide range of their home may be considered able to maintain a geocache 200 miles (322 km) away. However, someone whose geocaching activities have primarily been within 25 miles (40 km) of home may not be. This determination is at the discretion of the cache reviewer.

 

Because of the effort required to maintain a geocache, we ask that you place physical caches in your usual caching area and not while on a vacation or business trip. It is best when you live within a manageable distance from the cache placements to allow for return visits. Geocaches placed during travel may not be published unless you are able to demonstrate an acceptable maintenance plan, which must allow for a quick response to reported problems. An acceptable maintenance plan might include the username of a local geocacher who will handle maintenance issues in your absence. Alternatively you might train a local person to maintain the cache. Document your maintenance plan in a Note to Reviewer on your cache page. This will auto-delete on publication.

We do not have any preference at the moment for the month we will be there. We are looking for your advise which month we should take. We really like sunny weather, but no rain and not to warm if possible.

Can you recommend the type of vehicle we should take. A 4wd camper or is a 2wd camper enough?

This journey will be our first big journey and the first one where we stay in a camper. So therefore we ask a lot of questions, because we want to plan accordingly

We want to spend 6 weeks in Australia

At the moment we are also planning to spend some days in a hotel in Syndney, then start traveling with the camper, and end in Cairns also with some days in a hotel.

Since January 2008 we have achieved 3.520 founds. So we know the regulations about hiding a cache and have also some own experience as we have 52 hidden yet.

Yes, we understand this regulation as well, but because of this unique happening we would like to have a reminder. Therefore is it maybe possible that we place the cache and a local will maintain it, if it is possible.

But before we can ask this, we first have to know the regulations. Like in the Netherlands you always need written permission of the owner to place a cache. But for example in our neighbor country Belgium and Germany you can place a cache where ever you are.

There is an Australian tourist website called Nothing Like Australia which I have been using for planning my honeymoon.

Another site I have used for planning trips and finding new places is iGetAbout Australia.

To help plan your travels with the weather you could use this site Bureau of Meteorology. For the month of February the town I am from (Taree, NSW) had a maximum temperature of 37.9, minimum temperature of 23.1 and a monthly mean temperature of 29.9 just as an example.

hi again,

 

The date is set, we are going from the 6th of may for six weeks. The plan is to go from Adelaide to Cairns.

 

But we are still not sure what we should do.

We would like to take a camper, but is it safe to park it outside a major city (Sydney/Melbourne/Canberra/Brisbane etc) and take public transport to downtown??? With the camper safe on it's parking spot with all of our belongings inside?

Or is it even possible to take the camper to the city and park it near downtown?
