Many people like the FTF game. I think they should make it official. Here's what they should do.

Can we have LTF games, too? You get points for being last to find a cache before it's archived. Tactics after finding include posting NA as a result of an obscure guideline violation, reporting the cache to the bomb squad, fouling it, incapacitating the CO, and more!

I have to highly disagree with the part I highlighted in red.

 

 

If you incapacitate the owner, who's going to archive the cache? It'll take forever** for a reviewer to do it.

I have been reconsidering this. I think it could work. I'd do it like this though.

 

Divide the world up into FTF zones.

 

Designate an official staging area for each zone.

 

When a new cache is published in a given zone those those interested in being FTF meet in the designated staging area.

 

At an appointed time those cachers in attendance battle for the right to be FTF.

 

Personally I don't think it necessary that the battles be to the death, but either way I don't care. It would be a good idea, though, if each staging area had a space set aside for spectators.

I sort of agree with ColdGear, however I think the reward should be for the 107th to find. This is much more difficult to achieve and overall a more rewarding experience for both the CO and finder.

See that is the beauty of the 107 plan.

 

It does not need all the rules and guidelines laid down in the OP. If that cache goes missing, you can just claim you were 107th and the others just did not bother to log, which is just as meaningful a title as the proposed FTF in the OP

This thread is probably now too far off to have a serious discussion. Why not just have a button that would allow the CACHE OWNER to recognize the FTF. Maybe a generic way an OWNER can grant a badge/little award to a particular finder.

I really like the FTF-coin idea. Good moneymaker for GS! I don't think you described exactly what dipping a FTF-coin does. I assume it gives you a FTF status on the cache. Sort of like buying indulgences from priests. Very medieval. Can I double-dip my FTF-coin to steal the FTF from someone who only single-dipped! Double dipping is so fashionable nowadays. Uh ... where's the nearest Baskin Robbins?

 

You could add another special case, the FTF-insider. That's for a FTF between submission and publication, with no direct contact from the hider. We'll see who REALLY sees those submissions.

 

And FTF-stealing! For those of us who never outgrew Go Fish.

 

I'll add a really super idea: First To Hide! We could have FTH for each city block, for each surveyed section and quarter-section, for each county ... well, county FTHs are mostly taken already. FTH a full fizzy in one state, FTH a half fizzy in one county. FTH each size of cache in a given state park that's at least a mile from the nearest cache of the same size. FTH any D/T combo that's ten miles from the nearest cache with the same D/T. Come on folks, think up some other possibilities for FTH!

It's a great idea if a little simplistic. The whole area of FTL (first to log) has been ignored, so it is also necessary to record the various combinations, FTF and FTL,

FTL but not FTF, FTF but not FTL. Then we need to decide if Co FTL is possible, for this we need logs to be timestamped, accurate to one micor-second should do, with automatic detection of simultanious logging. Then we can have Co FTL and Co FTF, Co FTF but not Co FTL etc. Then we can publish tables of the various possibilities, oh what joy shall be ours.

Only one person gets to claim FTF, and two other Co-FTF.

 

Everyone get's to pick whether they are FTF or not, and next to there find count there will be a red picture that says FTF or Co-FTF.

 

If someone disagree's with FTF then a voting match will be held, the first 5 geocachers to find the cache (other then the two that are debating the FTF/Co-FTF) get to vote for who should be FTF/Co-FTF.

 

If you feel that you wrongly lost the vote due to discrimination, and whatnot, then you may contact Groundspeak with proof, and they will reinstate your FTF/Co-FTF.

 

A cache owner can disable FTF voting/picking, and may pick who is FTF/Co-FTF for himself, in this case repeals to Groundspeak will not matter and will be ignored.

 

Every 10 FTF's you get 2 extra Favorite Votes every 10 Co-FTF's you get one extra Favorite Vote, in addition to the regular ten.

 

Your FTF count will be right next to your find count and Co-FTF count will be right next to your FTF count (But both before your FTF/Co-FTF if said person has FTF-CoFTF)

 

Power-FTF caches. This will be a special type of cache, in which 15 people may log FTF's. Afterwords everyone else can log a co-FTF. If you feel that you don't deserve co-ftf/ftf on these caches then you can choose to opt out of FTF on these caches.

 

Souvenir's for 1 FTF, 10 FTF's, 100 FTF's 1000 FTF's, and 10,000 FTF's at at 20,000 FTF's you get a special FTF geocoin which when dropped into a geocache will allow you to log an FTF on any cache.

 

FTF-coins. These are promotional coins sold by Groundspeak with "charges". You keep these in your personal possession and can drop these into s many caches as you have charges left. You must pay for a minimum of 10 charges but can name the amount of charges, $5 per charge.

 

FTF-stealing, if you have more then 10X the amount of FTF's as another person, you can "steal" there FTF, in which they get down-moted to Co-FTF, this is not appealable to Groundspeak. You cannot abuse this power, it's strictly for times when you deserve FTF and don't feel like voting.

 

Early FTF, this is a special FTF that counts on a technical level as a Co-FTF but is actually a real FTF is disguise. This person got the coords early and had extra time to go for FTF. You may only claim true-FTF in this case if the first person to find it after it was posted claims Co-FTF on it.

 

FTF-new-log, this too counts as a Co-FTF, in this case you are the first person to find it after a new log, this may only be done if you are the first to log a find after a maintence log.

 

FTF-year, this may be logged if you are the first person in the year to find this cache, you must have not found the cache previously. This will only be loggable if you are the first to claim it after a new-year. Counts as Co-FTF.

 

FTF events, these are special events where 100's of event specific caches are hidden, everyone at these event caches may log a FTF on any cache. These caches are usually 50 feet from each other and you do NOT have to log them. You simply specify how many you found in the FTF logging section (Event owner has to specify how many are hidden, limit of 300 to avoid FTF abuse).

 

Any other suggestions? I think this would be a great improvement to the game. And I need your imput on this!

 

Wow.. Maybe...MAYBE at the most, an FTF log type for those who found it, or a CO controlled log designation that could be added after the fact. But stealing FTF's??? FTFDM = First To Find Death Match

 

Arrange for a time for all interested parties to meet (some nearby parking lot, etc.). Give them all 12 inch knives and a bandana (you can't have a death match without a bandana). Let them all rush out to try to find the cache and let nature take it's course. The last one standing is the only who can claim FTF.

 

Much simpler set of rules IMHO.
